Greetings from Amsterdam, NL.

Honestly I signed up here for a sad reason and that is to find a new home for my much loved Townshend Rock 2 with Kuzma arm. Children and small house mean I can no longer enjoy it and I'm looking for a buyer. I actually have to say goodbye to the whole system (Rotel Pre- and Power amps, Matching Rotel CD player. But I think everything except the turntable is not very valuable as it is more than 10 years old - perhaps you guys have advice on that.

I'll be putting an ad in when I have taken some pictures

Feel free to ask me anything about it - and anyone who knows a good way to sell it I'd be very grateful for the advice!

I appreciate your honesty but you must understand this is a site for music and audio equipment enthusiasts and not a hi-fi sales site. Although we do have the facility for the members to freely advertise music and equipment that is provided as a courtesy to them for their on-going contribution to the community.

That said I appreciate your domestic situation but if you enjoy music why not keep the CD player and use headphones?

As to your equipment Rotel is a respected brand and holds its value reasonably well. If you have some of the Michi components then they are quite sought after regardless of age.

Having visited A'Dam many times I know what you mean about space. I friend of mine has just bought an apartment on the Prinsengracht, and it measures only 30 square meters. I guess it is not just the space of the equipment but also the LPs. I have to agree with the others though, the forum is more than a market place.

Like others I hope to hear more than just your upcoming sales.

For many years I've been a regular visitor to Haarlem and just returned from there yesterday. Was nice to see at least 5 HiFi shops in that town when cycling around selling everything from budget to ultra high end.

Were it not for the outrageous property prices I'd be living there now.

Thanks for the welcome - I hope my being honest hasn't got me blackballed on day one!

About me - grew up in the 80s and started in Hifi in the NAD 3020 era I had a few turntables, Garrard (501?), Dual CS505, a Revolver, and then 25 yrs back got my Rock. I was really lucky to pick it up at good price.
Music: well as the Dutch say "you can't criticise anyone's taste" so being a grumpy youth in the time it was very goth (Banshees, Cure, Bauhaus) and very electronic (New Order, DAF, Front 242).
Broadened out later to more musical things (PJ Harvey, Aimee Mann, Beth Orton etc) and more rytmhic (Chemical Brothers, Prodigy) and industrial (NiN, KMFDM, Curve).
I've also been known to go to the Opera so I'm not completely in the pop world.

I have been to see many many gigs by the bands above and have the top end hearing damage to prove it. That also makes me less appreciative of what proper HiFi can do.

HiFi claim to fame - I met Max Townshend once but that was a long time ago at a shop called Freetime Audio in Portsmouth UK.

And yes - the house prices are ridiculous here :(

Yes, I have visited Amsterdam on a few occasions. Wonderful city, friendly people, great beer and great museums. Just watch out for the cyclists when you cross the road!

Attended a Miles Davis concert at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw back in 1988. Wonderful - all that and Rembrandt and van Gogh too!

Yeah - I love living here - never felt like returning to UK.
Best live pop venue I've been to (Paradiso, near the Leidseplein which you probably visited)

If you like Jazz there are a few good places as well.

I am one of the cyclists you need to watch out for :)

Welcome to the forum. The Rock is a great TT... But having two little-un's myself I know exactly where you are coming from.

Are you not going to get another system? There are lots here who have a varity of small lifestyle systems to fit your drum. :)

Well I have decided to abandon vinyl forever - sad but realistic. Alll my CDs are ripped to FLAC and sit on a NAS and one day I'll invest again in decent D/A, amplification and speakers.

Expensive HIFI deserves sitting down and listening to and there's not much time for that as I'm sure you know so (don't laugh) it is Sonos for now. It'll be a few years before I can justify anything better. Is it heretical here to say it should be about the music not the tool to play the music?

I've come to the conclusion that the pleasure I got from great equipment is different from what I get from great music - and sometimes I was listening to the equipment and not to the music. There is probably a long existing thread on that topic here /newbie
