Especially after just seeing Mr Sampson’s edit on his previous post:

Utterly disgraceful racist abuse!

its a lot of things, not convinced any of them are racist

Marco

So being told to “fuck off back to Italy or Scotland” isn’t a racist remark??

Whatever it is, I’m certainly not putting up with being addressed in that manner! It’s totally out of order, which is why the idiot has been banned.

The law in this country confused nationality with race quite some time ago, so legally it probably is racist but in reality it is just extremely nationalistic, as you say a bit like the BNP.

Whatever way you cut it, Martin, such comments have no place on a friendly and civilised forum.

Unfortunately comments which offend our sensibilities will crop up whenever politics or religion is discussed. This why so many forum owners discourage or ban any mention of it, which is wise in my book.

Which would be to accept that the membership here are incapable of discussing such topics with the decorum expected of any well-adjusted adult? I'm not prepared to accept that. Its a gold standard for any civilised forum.

Clive, the vast majority of the discussion on this thread has been conducted constructively and civilly, and that’s the way it will remain until the thread dies a natural death.

Just because bigoted idiots, like Mr Sampson exist, who can’t control their abusive rants, is no reason not to discuss political matters such as this. That is why they will be allowed to take place, but will be strictly moderated.

I will not allow folk like Mr Sampson to dictate the agenda here.

Now, please, let’s leave it there :)

Nothing of the sort Martin. I think if you were to instigate a poll, which I did in a way, asking the membership for their views on whether the subject should be freely discussed, I believe the majority would answer in the negative. It has the potential to cause a lot of anger and frustration and often leads to conflict, which is what we have witnessed. The art of reasonable debate does not come naturally to some people which is why such debates often dissolve into tit for tat arguments. It would be easy to apportion blame in these circumstances however human nature being what it is, one wonders if it is wiser not to put temptation in the way in the first place. Anyway, I'm off to watch some telly, it doesn't answer back...

I think most of us here understand what the real problem is, Dave, and it’s not allowing political discussions, such as this, to stand. If these discussions weed out bigoted scumbags in our membership, who are incapable of behaving in a civil manner, then that alone will have made the whole exercise worthwhile! ;)

Ok, folks, that’s enough now. Anything else off-topic will be removed without further notice.

It's going nowhere of course. Which is why my PT will remain available to post on loos thread. As powerful, influential and respected vested interests, with direct first hand experience of the count, like the "yes" campaign and the SNP are satisfied that it was a fair count and there was no government corruption to expose, the petition could reach a million signatures and will still be ignored as fringe ignorance of the reality of the vote and the government's role in it.

You’re almost certainly right, Richard. However, that doesn’t automatically mean that the referendum (and vote count) was conducted 100% competently, honestly and therefore was devoid of any corruption or scaremongering tactics by the ’No’ campaign, and the government who were behind them.

Sometimes it’s easier for the establishment just to cover up any evidence of such, ignore ‘the rabble’ and try and suppress them - for as long as they are able to do so, anyway………. ;)

The “dirty tactics” of most concern, Dave, is how establishment corruption (via a bent government) was used to deprive the Scottish people from the independence they wanted, and indeed deserved.

Forget about the ‘official’ vote count. I don’t believe for one second that the figures given accurately reflected the REAL state of affairs - and even by some miracle if they did, 45% of Scotland is still determined to get its way eventually, and that desire for independence is only destined to increase, until it eventually becomes a reality….!

Indeed - if you think that view is spectacular, try The Trossachs, just north of Glasgow, or around any of the Lochs (the area around Loch Tay in particular), or further north up in the Cairn Gorm Mountain range, or in the islands, Skye, Iona and Orkney are truly spectacular! Or come to North Wales and visit Snowdonia, areas of which are also truly breathtaking in their natural beauty :)

Hi Brian,

I think you’re most probably right, but we can live in hope!

Perhaps the time is running out for a UK Westminster-based government? I certainly hope so. I’d love to see England and Wales also go independent, and end this unfair and outdated central ruling from London, which is largely unwanted by the rest of the UK.

The emboldened text above is certainly true (get it right up them, I say; now the wankers in Westminster know what they’re up against), and that number is destined only to grow.

There are many Scots who are deeply disgruntled with the current state of affairs, and the inequality of rights allocated to Scotland being within the current ‘union’ - and as the size of that ‘Yes vote’ for independence continues to grow, so is the likelihood of their dream becoming a reality.

Here's some fuel to the embers... Sony Pictures held back the broadcast of their series Outlander (a series in the vein of Highlander) after a meeting with David Cameron in the run up to the Scottish Independence vote:

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/leaked-sony-email-speaks-of-political-importance-of-outlander-to-indyref.123650961

Thanks for that, Sam. It's just more of the corrupt bullshit we've come to expect from Cameron and his gang of (soon to be deposed) chinless Westminster wonders. If the surface had been scraped further, I'm sure that even more 'dirty deeds' would've been exposed...

The key quote, however, from the article is this:

A strong team of SNP MPs elected to Westminster on May 7 will make Scotland's voice heard like never before, end austerity and demand that no UK Prime Minister is able to censor like this.

I should point out that it is not unusual for controversial TV shows to be pulled or postponed due to elections, referendums or in some cases, world events.

The SNP have had their referendum and they lost so why are they still here? Why are they on BBC TV every single night repeating their boring shite when they are not fieldng any candidates outside Scotland so no English or Welsh or Irish can vote for them even if they wanted to?

Marco
21-04-2015, 14:49
Boring shite? Lol... I'd rather listen to their "boring shite" than the guff, lies, scaremongering and manipulative PISH that comes out of Cameron's mouth! ;)

As for English, Welsh and Irish UK citizens not being allowed to vote SNP, more's the pity.... If they were granted that privilege, hauling Cameron's ass out of Westminster would be even more of a certainty, as there are plenty of folk living in England, Wales and Ireland who are sympathetic towards the ethos of the SNP party.

Still, when SNP join forces with labour (and trust me, it *is* on the cards, as there will be no majority win for any party at this general election), there'll be some big (and long overdue) changes in the running of the country, which will result in a more equal and much fairer Britain for all but the fat cats in Westminster, who've been living off the cream for years.

Now, at long last, the ordinary people of Britain will have their day!

Okay here is a question for you : Why is it okay, admirable even, to be a Welsh or Scottish nationalist but not okay to be an English nationalist?

Time to 'fess up Martin. I once stood as an MEP candidate for the English Democrats. I faded away from the party because of their progressive anti-Europeanism. But on most issues I thought they were entirely sound, and I still think it would be in Englands interests to divest itself of the Scots, and maybe the Welsh and cease the constant drain of funding to support them. Any future financial support would be part of our general overseas aid budget. It bugs me that Scottish kids to go to the same Gloucester Universities as my daughter and step-son, who are paying £9000 a year in fees, whilst the Scottish kids get their fees paid by the Scottish government, out of funds supplemented by my English taxes. But I don't think Marco believed me when I said I supported Scottish Independence and wished the canny buggers hadn't voted for the union. But your average real Scot is not daft, and knows which side his bread is buttered.

Marco
21-04-2015, 15:58
And Marco, I hate to break it to you but you have your own business, own multiple properties and drive a flash Mercedes. You are one of the fat cats!

Lol - I don't think so... I do ok, but I'm certainly no multi-millionaire, who's earned most of his money from being a sponging, self-serving old c*nt. For 'fat cats', think of the types who make up the House of Lords, or the 'silent elite', who in reality control the government!

Here is the official meaning of 'Fat Cat': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_cat_%28term%29 I certainly don't come under that category.

And incidentally, I've never said that there was anything wrong with being an English nationalist. If you feel that way, good luck to you, and your views should be given as much credibility as those of a Scottish or Welsh nationalist. I'm ALL FOR the existence of parity, fairness and equality, for EVERYONE in the UK! Essentially, it's about DEMOCRACY.

However, one of the main reasons why Scottish and Welsh Nationalists have the influence they do is because their existence is arguably more justified than that of any English nationalists. For me, the whole point of the former existing is to give the people who live in the smaller nations, which make up the UK, a BIGGER VOICE, and therefore influence, in their future.

English UK citizens (with having UK control coming from Westminster) already have that privilege, and so Scottish or Welsh nationalism is about redressing the balance of power and giving the people of Scotland and Wales (and Ireland, too) a bigger slice of the cake, which collectively, they help pay for: in short, getting more of what they truly deserve, and making the whole system and division of wealth in the UK fairer and more equal.

The fact is, the north/south divide in the UK has never been bigger (largely because of the influence of London, which is an entity unto itself), so how does that state of affairs help make for a United Kingdom?? Patently it doesn't, and so that's why parties such as SNP and Plaid Cymru exist: in order to try and REDRESS the ridiculous north/south divide that currently exists, by creating a more equal division of wealth, and thus a fairer and more equal Britain.

*That* is why I'm all for it!! :exactly:

I still think it would be in Englands interests to divest itself of the Scots, and maybe the Welsh and cease the constant drain of funding to support them.

Hahahaha... I think it's more likely the other way round, which is why Cameron and his cronies, along with creating the vote rigging fiasco, pulled out every trick in the book to scare a large percentage of Scottish voters into not voting for independence. If England had nothing to gain from Scotland remaining as a part of the UK, then Cameron et al did a bloody good job of hiding it....!!

It bugs me that Scottish kids to go to the same Gloucester Universities as my daughter and step-son, who are paying £9000 a year in fees, whilst the Scottish kids get their fees paid by the Scottish government, out of funds supplemented by my English taxes.

Oh, boo-hoo for you... What about all the stuff in England that's supplemented by the money generated from North Sea oil? ;)

If you're genuinely interested in what's best for the UK, rather than simply what's best for England and the English, then you wouldn't make statements like that.

It's supposed to be about all of us pulling together to achieve a common goal, not just looking after No1. The fact that you have that type of attitude is precisely why the Scots and Welsh nationalists exist in the first place, and want to do something to fundamentally address the current state of affairs in the UK, of inequality created as a result of English rule.

The situation you've highlighted is similar to the fact that the Scots and Welsh don't have to pay for their NHS prescriptions, yet the English do. Why? Because the powers that be where you are would rather slip money into the pockets of the 'fat cats' than look after their own people properly - that's why!

Therefore, perhaps if 'you lot' changed your approach, and followed the lead of the Scottish government (caring properly for its citizens), not only would you get free prescriptions, but your daughter and stepson would also receive funding for their education!

Please God the election will come and go soon and these political forum threads can die a natural and well deserved death. No-one on here will ever agree politically so it all seems a bit pointless and just generates friction. I am pretty astounded by some of the neanderthal language used and the backward-looking reasoning used to justify the belief that a few current media sweetheart mouthy politicians can change the whole of UK for the better. Truth is, a vast majority, INCLUDING those north of the border just seem to be from the same self serving out for what they can get mould. They want control for their own ends, simple as. Scotland voted and rejected independence. As for a few politicians from outside of England who represent our interests LESS than Westminster (after all, the seat of the UK's democratically elected Govt), God forbid they ever get into positions of power here. The media will go onto something else after May and we can all get on with our lives.

Hi Paul,

If this is what you truly want:

Please God the election will come and go soon and these political forum threads can die a natural and well deserved death.

Then why post something such as this:

...if you don't wish to provoke a response from those that vehemently disagree? Furthermore, if that's the case, then how are those south of the border any less self-serving??

I can't say I'm at all surprised that on a forum where approximately 65% of the membership is English, that views expressed which aren't conducive to appeasing English sensibilities, or that don't focus on what facilitates their best interests, don't always go down well!

S'ok, I'm thick-skinned ;)

What's really worrying is the idea that people's voting intentions could be changed in 2015 by a fictionalised historical drama about something that happened 250 or so years back. Was universal suffrage really such a great idea?

Who would pay for it Marco? Are you offering to chip in. We were £91 billion short last year and had to put it on a low interest credit card. When we have to
borrow from quickquid we're fried. The Greek government has just required Greek business to lend it's banks money. Next will be iou's from private citizens. Today Greece tomorrow Wales?

Come on, Keith, that's just daft and completely unjustified. Just because someone is critical of our current English-based government, and the way that the nation has been run for years, doesn't make that person (or his views) anti-English. It's simply anti-government.

I have far more English friends in real life than I do, Scots or Welsh :)

Then you should talk about how the 'UK' government is being run rather then the 'English-led' government.

Stop talking about how the 'English' have rigged a vote because the side you support lost.

Stop going on about 'English' bias in the BBC etc....

I started to read this forum because it seemed a place to talk and learn about Hi-fi and music but most importantly because it seemed a reasonably friendly place to post. Now i fully understand its your forum so post what you wish but dont be surprised if someone else feels the same as me recently that its a little unwelcoming when i keep reading about how the 'English' are ruining things.

And with that ill leave you to it and maybe just cut down the time i spend viewing the forum. Obviously thats no big shakes in the grand scheme of things as im not exactly a regular poster here anyway.

(mind you my parentage is French/Welsh )

Marco

Well, how do the Scots or the Welsh manage it?

It's not all about borrowing. The Scottish government is given a budget from Westminster to spend as they choose, and they choose to spend some of it on offering free prescriptions and subsidised education to their citizens (as do the Welsh), rather than rewarding the 'fat cats', as the English powers that be do with their money, thus forcing their own people to pay for both of the aforementioned services.

It's precisely those types of actions and sentiments (ones of fairness and equality: and a mantra of prioritising the needs of ordinary folk first, fat cats and unwanted submarines second) that the whole of the UK will see more of, if the Welsh and Scottish nationalists are allowed to influence policy making in the House of Commons, after this forthcoming general election, which is why I'm praying for it to happen! :)

The fact is that 'the English', and whom our current government is mostly made up of, are intrinsically linked, simply because it is they (the English majority) who are currently making most of the political decisions that affect the lives of non-English UK citizens.

Therefore, if others or I express disdain towards them (or their policies), said disdain is directed towards them ALONE, and those who agree with their principles, not automatically other English people. I take folk as I find them, no matter where they were born, so please don't give me that anti-English bollocks, simply because you don't like or agree with my views.

Stop going on about 'English' bias in the BBC etc....

Why? What if I genuinely believe that there is such bias - should I just shut up and say nothing? I haven't insulted YOU personally (unless you work for the BBC and are involved in their decision making), so don't take it personally. Simples :)

Well, nothing has changed since you first joined. AoS is still a friendly place to post, so you are most welcome to contribute. However, if others or you choose to interpret my perfectly legitimate opinions as 'anti-English', and take them personally, when that is not what was intended, then there's nothing much I can do about that.

Perhaps it's best if in future you avoid these types of discussions and stick to hi-fi topics instead?

Keep politics away from this forum.
This thread is bollocks.

Unfortunately, Sam (Audio Advent) resurrected it, as until then the thread had been lying dormant for months, so blame him! ;)

Anyway, this thread has undoubtedly run its course, and as there are other existing threads where the forthcoming general election, and this sort of stuff can be discussed, I think it's time to pull the plug on this one.
