Hello everybody,

My name is Gints, originally I from Latvia but now for some unknown time I am based in London.

I watched this forum for quite long time (since I had Beresford DAC) but today I saw a post where I also have what to say and decided that it can be a good time to start posting myself also (or should I say restart).

My system still is in search for optimum (long life eBay) and currently it is laptop, Beresford 7520 DAC, Sennheiser HD595 phones, Teac CR-H230 as amplifier and radio, Castle Pembroke speakers. Most of you know what they are and how they look, and maybe pictures is not necessary, I think.

Music tastes quite often is down to the mood, so to get insight in my music preferences maybe I just name some of artists (like in TV show’s most favourite phrase - in non particular order) – Emma Shapplin, Sarah Brightman, Leonard Cohen, Vaya Con Dios, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Jesse Cook, A-ha, Alphavilla, Billy Idol, Chris Rea, Pink Floyd, Yello, Enya, Joe Dassin, Simon & Garfunkel, Nightwish, Midnight Oil, Kazu Matsui, Astor Piazolla, Boney M, Goombay Dance Band, Bacara, some classical music sometimes is very nice.
Never understood music styles but if must name one then that will be something on melancholic side - songs or instrumental, Argentine tango is good example. Or maybe that is because music just sound better when you are a little bit sad.

So, maybe this is enough for my profile, I think.

Welcome to the forum. Don't let that nasty man DSJR (;)) try to tell you that Tangerine Dream are better than JMJ - tain't so, I know, I love Equinoxe and Oxygene as the best of JMJ and some of the guys on here tried to persuade me that Tangerine Dream was better - if they try to persuade you, don't let them. They are good, in parts, certainly different, but no way better, IMHO.

DSJR is not a nasty man really ;) - actually he appears to be quite nice, but his only failing (that I am aware of) is that he lives under the delusion that Tangerine Dream are better than JMJ - sad thing is that others on this forum seem to agree with him :doh: - sad really.

Gints, welcome to AOS! And don't listen to anyone else here. The only good thing Tangerine Dream did was the music to Streethawk :lol: ;) What you really need is some early Kraftwerk!

I had Castle Pembrokes for a year or two, nice little speakers.
I also like your listed music. Nightwish is quite unusual i think. The songs deserve better recording quality IMHO. We went through a Nightwish phase in my house, but lately we seem to have moved on to Within Temptation.

I too, had some Pembrokes - the older stand-mount model - and liked them a lot. They did blow their protection fuses quite a lot, though.


Most of you know what they are and how they look, and maybe pictures is not necessary, I think.

Looks that I must say some words about that comments.
I heard name Tangering Dreams before but never heard they music (I think), so I downloaded one compilation (Tangents). I have no idea if it is representative but for me that music is quite different from Jarre. Why are you trying to compete between them?
On other hand Jarre compilations (Images for example) also can give not the best idea about his music. I share the same that Oxygene, Equinoxe (and Magnetic Fields) are his best albums, and it also about how they are build – you can listen them like a stories. Put that musical pieces in some mixed compilation and all that special emotional feeling of music is gone. Anyway, Jarre is out of competition. They were ones of my first albums on reel tape back in eighties, so they have history behind. I used listen them quite a lot.

I had Kraftwerk as well; remember Autobahn, Trans-Europe Express, Radioactivity or Chernobyl, but that is the all, I think. Maybe I will take a look on them again.

Yes, Nightwish is not usual for me. One of our housemate was big fan of them, so I made a compilation (most melodic bits) from his discs. Actually, it is all down to that nice female singer. I like that voice and how that all sound together. Yes, quality may be better and dynamic range value is quite low as well. Will take a look what Within Temptation are.

Hmm, varied taste? Some is very nice on late night when all that daytime background noise is gone, some benefit so much from being played as loud as possible, and some is just for good mood when you doing something around at home. I am quite sure that most of us have something similar in their collections.
