Ok up for sale or swap is my ADC cartridge. It's in A1 working order and sounds great but! I fancy trying something else. It's been used on my SME 3009 improved fixed headshell so something compatable if swapping. I don't mind putting a bit towards a swap too.
I'll say £95 delivered? Please advise if this is wrongly priced.
No box I'm afraid but it will be securely boxed for posting.
I've tried to catch the serial number without taking it off the headshell.

it's a fair price..nice carts these..and becoming scarce..You're going to have to spend a lot of money to get a noticeable difference...If it ain't broke...don't fix it...

As the XLM series went on and into the Phase IV model, the already sweet and musical sonics became firmer, the bass and stability improving significantly. The XLM III is a lovely product and featured a (partly?) Jico-made stylus I understand (tapered cantilever with better hinge-form).

In terms of today's sonics, the XLM III won't have the 'drive' and 'absolute definition' of a modern fixed-coil cartridge, let alone a half decent moving coil, but it'll make up for this with an utterly musical and atmospheric delivery from vinyl and with low surface noise, tracking at 1.3g or so.

P.S. I have a collection of ADC's and am using an XLM III in one of the Garrards right now :)

Considering the arm you are using you will be hard fixed finding something better imho.. AKG 'P8ES{ Supa Nova} is good if you can get one.. It's like you people are trying to get blood from a stone imho..

I think I'm going to remove this from sale/swap for now until I'm 100% sure it's the rite move as I'm very happy with it.
As Alan has said. If it ain't broke don't fix it and that's a very true saying.
Thanks all.

I did look about but not sure if the ones on eBay are legit. Have you any recommendations as to where to look?

Nice to see that this cartridge has a very nice rep, I have one that came with my td135 and I'm yet to have a careful audition with it.

I think it sounds superb but I think I wanted more, I never know when to sit back and just enjoy what I have I'm afraid

Ok. I've been looking around for a replacement styli. One site that I came across is Mantra audio. Has anyone dealt with them before? Also is this a genuine ADC? It seems abit cheap to me. https://shop.mantra-audio.co.uk/acatalog/ADC-RSQ36-QLM36-RSX-XLM--Stylus-Ref-707E-MA0011.html

I would have made an offer on this, but I have three ADCs already.

I don't find them falling short in comparison to modern cartridges at all. In fact my 10E Mk.IV compared very well alongside my DL-103R both sounding very similar, surprisingly, with equal transparency and punch, the ADC having a little more top end refinement, but slightly more accentuation of surface noise and the Denon having slightly tighter bass, but not quite as extended. The ADCs extend very well into low frequencies.

The 10E Mk.IV sounds very similar to the XLM III. I've compared them.

Anybody wanting ADC styli should contact 'Carole's Needles' in America. She has a huge stock of styli of all makes, going back to the fifties. I've bought from her (and chatted to her) and had great service. Her items are listed on eBay sometimes.

Some stockists in the US offer ADC originals. Stocks are very limited now though! I suspect the Jico ones should be fine and in this case, an SAS version should be stunning :)

LP Gear do a Jico? fine line replacement stylus (RX III?) that may well be amazing. I believe they made the XLM III stylus for ADC too - the paint dot on the cantilever looks suspicious ;)

Thanks Geoff. I've now contacted her and I'll keep you informed.
Cheers.

Thanks David.
I've just had a quick look on there site but I will study it more when I return from work.
Thanks again!

Bummer, went to look at mine and what I have is a QLM 34 MKIII, don't know how inferior it is than the one for sale?

Quite a difference in treble refinement :) NOS QLM styli seem fairly available too and although the body is a different colour, the innards aren't so different. The XLM III had some quality control added though, rather like the Stanton 681 EEE series..
