Roy , did you retire in the kitchen ? Is it a fist or a sign of grabbing something cylindrical :D

That's what's known as a 'break out' area in modern office parlance Al, where you go to eat your lunch, yeah a kitchen :D. He's probably subconsciously pulling my entrails out for leaving them in the lurch.

At my favourite cafe on the Leidseplein in A'dam. I didn't know I was being shot. Oh and by the way - there's a black pawn hidden behind the queen on F5 and it's white's move.
This is a great cafe: there are always people playing cards or backgammon or chess. Food is ok and the beer is good. I play seldom these days, more into bridge.

Its been old photos time here. My brother is about to send me all the old family albums to scan so that everyone can have a CD of them. They start when my parents got married in the thirties.

Not quite so old but old enough, this is me with the very first proper computer made!! I used to draw people's houses on the Mac and print them up cards and letterheads etc. Too easy these days, everyone can just scan in.

I reckon it must have been 1986 so I was 39 years young. I even had hair.

Ok folks a wee pic of me on holiday. It's amazing what a wee bit of sun can make you do! :D my wife asked me to get her beach dress from our room and decided that I would wear it back to the pool and bloody hell all the hotel staff were whistling and clapping. I was getting nods and winks from the waiters for the rest off the week ;)

Lucky man. I regretted this one during the honeymoon. I drove us down onto the beach for a romantic interlude and the damn car got stuck in the sand with the tide coming in. Had to get a garage out to pull us out. I thought it was funny. Sadly my new bride didn't share my enthusiasm and it got even stickier thereafter. It took me another 25 years to get married again and fortunately, this time I have no regrets.

It was a stone lifting comp, a cast back from the original Highland Games etc...

That's a 140kg block I'm lifting in readiness to press, which I did but it nearly killed me!

We still hold the same comp each year but I'm not doing it this time around as I've a torn right shoulder unfortunately but will be back at it next year!

We also compete in drug free/tested associations for powerlifting and strongman...

Anyone can do it, just because you don't have the build now doesn't mean you can't develop it ;)

Very true. In my early twenties I was a (qualified) mason pavior and my job was laying concrete and stone, kerbs, blocks and slabs. Granite kerb weighs over 50 kilos per foot length and I used to lift, cart and lay metre lengths every day, amongst other hefty items. You get stronger and more used to it by the day and I was only 5'6" eleven stone. I got even stronger and broader as I got older too (that's what weight training and ten hours of judo a week does to you) :).

Sounds interesting... If I was nearer I'd come along and maybe have a go. Being a fairly big chap myself, I'm not averse to lifting weights ;)

Marco.

That's not far! We've got lads coming over from Jersey for the next comp!!! ;)

At 6ft 4 and 22stone, I like the 'hefty' title haha :D

My doctor told me not to lift anything heavy...

Mine too, and he told me to lose weight... He went very quiet after I laughed at him :D

Hehehehe... It's far enough away for just doing a 'jolly jape'. Different if I was involved in a competition :)

Is that 22 stone of muscle then, not including the big bit between your ears? Haha... :eyebrows: ;)

I'm just a mere 'tot', in comparison, at 6ft 2ins and 15 stone!

I'm not too bad Marco, about 18% body fat. I'm a weightlifter/powerlifter etc so not interested in low body fat etc but certainly not a fat blob! Just a naturally big lad (probably through 16 years of competitive rugby) and then 11 years of competitive weightlifting etc...

Still, as me father in law says, I'm better at blocking out light rather than letting it through :D

You,ll make a good prop forward the Dan. Coming from the Borders I player a bit when young and did weightlifting too..yes i was a prop too lol.
ended up a swimmer so had to stop all the bulk building although you wouldnt think it now. doh!

all the lifting through my life has ruined my joints

Aye I started off as a No.8 and developed into a lock forward... Fortunately I learned to tape my ears from a young age so I'm still pretty :D

Lifting hasn't caused me too many issues thank god. Hurt my shoulder in 2013 and still having a few niggles but seeing an Osteo and a sports physio has done my a world of good!

But decided having this year off competing would be beneficial just to recover properly otherwise I'll mash myself good and proper and end up needing surgery (which I really don't want)!

I do a lot of coaching as well for lads looking to get involved in power and strongman comps so that keeps me busy and in perfect form as I'm teaching techniques so need to be able to show I'm actually able to 'do' and not just teach!

Yup, plus I get paid ;)

But I love it so if the lads show commitment I stop charging after their 1st 6 sessions and just take it from there

No doubt I'll lose some height in my older age but alas I'm only 35 so not doing too bad so far :D

Dan, it irks me at my gym watching pts getting novices to deadlift with rounded backs etc. These guys are paying them for their knowledge and so trust them with their health and even i can see they're doing it wrong.

Only just stumbled across this thread. I'm sure a few of you have seen my mugshot in Hi-Fi World but this was me enjoying my birthday present from Mrs. B last year - a day on the Watercress Line driving a steam train!

A former collegue of mine (now sadly departed) was, for his 60th birthday, given a ticket to operate on the footplate the Flying Scotsman. He had a go at both being the driver and the fireman; the latter being very hard work for someone not used to it!

Looks like you had a good time Adam. :)
