Replacing old with new

Dear All,

Unfortunately my Speakers: Mission 753 and Amp: Kenwood KRV V7070 have been damaged by water ….. my insurance are willing to replace them with todays equivalent however I am not as versed on he subject as I used to be. Could anyone give me a helping hand?

Are you looking to buy brand new or will you consider second-hand items?

Hi Simon,

If you have new for old to get and equivalent of the Kenwood you will need to look at something like the Sony STRDN1040 which is an A/V amp with similar spec albeit the Home Theatre market has moved on a lot since the 90's when you kit came out. You don't say if you use the kit just for music or if you want A/V for movies as well. There are similar Missions on sale now of course. What kind of music do you like as this will effect choice too. If the insurance company will pay out cash, find out how much and with a budget, the world's your lobster. Let us know a bit more :)

Many thanks for the above: I would prefer the amp be able to handle movies also although I would use it predominately for music. Re music, my preference is classic rock. Re the missions what would come closest to the 753's. all the best and thanks again Simon

I'd say go along to Richer Sounds since you are unlikely to find anywhere selling brand new a/v amps and speakers for less, but I notice that you are in Malta. Here is the link anyway just to give you an idea of what is out there and the prices:

A/v wise anything from Yamaha, Sony, Onkyo or Marantz will be competent and no worse than your Kenwood. Finding a similar current production speaker to the Mission 753 might be a bit trickier. Knowing what the budget is would help :)

If I recall right the 753s were about £800 when they sold new back in the mid 90s if they are the speaker I am thinking they are :scratch:

Maybe a pair of Dali Ikon 5 mk2 speakers would be a suitable replacement for about £800 ish

I can't think of anything else that would be similar to your 753s, avoid Monitor Audio (bright and in your face)
