Would consider any decent CD/SACD player, up to £500.

Ahhhh I am thinking of selling my Marantz SA7 but you would need to put a 2 in front of the 500.

A bit OTT for me. Looking for a decent machine with an OK DAC. Long term plan is to get my PS Audio DAC Mk2 upgraded to the DSD version and use the SACD as transport only.

Very few transports able to transmit DSD and any that can are big money. Most use firewire or twin xlr connections to do so.

Good luck with the quest.

Am I correct that the Model SA-15S2 does it?

http://www.marantz.co.uk/DocumentMaster/UK/dfu_SA-15S2N.pdf

There is one available, but more than I want to spend.

Thanks

Steven

What about the Sony SCD-XE800?

It plays SACD and according to the specs on the support section of the Sony website it supports DSD (whatever that is ).

Oh and it's £149 brand new on Pixmainia!

Hi Steven

No it doesn't - page 21 of the instructions.

The facility to output raw DSD was for a long time not permitted by Sony, then Pioneer found/negotiated away to do it via Firewire from a DVD player to an AV amplifier and that opened the window to have separate SACD transports and DACs but it isn't to my understanding available via coax or fibre optic, its still either Firewire or in the case of Esoteric that + two xlr connections.

The Marantz is the baby integrated player with the 11 and 7 above it, good integrated but not able to be anything but a red book transport.

Thanks Neil - really helpful. I see your reference to where if you put a dual layer CD/SACD, you get CD output, which rather defeats the object.

Life is becoming too short to try and work this one out and I will stick to vinyl, ripped CDs and 192/24 downloads.

I am now planning on winning the lottery (unless you can lend me £67,500) and getting the DcS Vivaldi digital system, which I heard at Whittlebury yesterday. Truly astonishing.

Steven

I have a PD50. Don't be put off by the low(ish) price as it is gives excellent repo. from SACD discs. And good with red book CD as well.

Thanks - very good suggestion.

This all started as I like a lot of the Harmonia Mundi recordings, and I am balancing up whether it is worth the money getting an SACD player just to be able to listen to my 5th (?) version of the Beethoven late quartets. Why can't they just release them in 24/192 like any normal company? (Answer: they're French).
