So, has a song ever sent shivers down your spine simply because it was so frickin' CREEPY???. However a song has creeped you out, explain why and post a link to it 'ere...

To get the ball rolling I choose '97 Bonnie & Clyde but not the Eminem version, which is freaky enough. Oh no, there is a far more sinister and disturbing version oozing about out there and what's more, it was performed and arranged by the unlikeliest of artists, Tori Amos...:stalks:

I can go into this immensely as I know a few songs that do such. To pick one, I'd nominate Dir En Grey's Decadence of a Mazohyst (if I recall the name correctly). The subject matter alone is horrifying and the song itself just has such an eerie sound to it.

I can see why you didn't post a link to the YT video... :eek:Dave; a lot of their music contributes or concerns the horrors of the mind and even society's cruel social constructions. A lot of their work is powerful and deserves a listen or two. A thing to consider is that they have always pushed for something with their music and they treat it with great care. They were one of the pioneers in the visual kei movement in Japan, but drifted away from such an appearance when they began to believe that the movement was becoming just a part of fashion instead of a statement in its own. Most of their work is very fascinating and for that mindset and decision making alone, I highly respect them as artists.

Dave; a lot of their music contributes or concerns the horrors of the mind and even society's cruel social constructions. A lot of their work is powerful and deserves a listen or two. For one, their production quality is amazing (especially their later work). Another thing to consider is that they have always pushed for something with their music and they treat it with great care. They were one of the pioneers in the visual kei movement in Japan, but drifted away from such an appearance when they began to believe that the movement was becoming just a part of fashion instead of a statement in its own. I will explore their work further Chris but not when my partner is about. She enjoys discovering new music as much as I do and so was watching over my shoulder when I went looking for a link to the song. The YT video really upset her so I turned it off after thirty seconds or so... :eyebrows:

I’m glad you liked it. In my music collection there are eight albums from “The Handsome Family”. Crazy stuff, very interesting lyrics which sometimes sound like miniatures inspired by Ambrose Bierce or H. P. Lovecraft.

Expanding on Chris' and Werner's posts it would be good if music with a somewhat skewed take on things were to be revealed to a wider audience via this thread, I look forward to listening to further interesting examples :)

Incidentally Werner I am currently listening to Singing Bones on Spotify ;)

I'd vote for What's he Building from Tom Waits

It might be too overplayed for effect - but it has bags of atmosphere

"I Love The Night"

That night her kiss told me it was over
I walked out late into the dark
The misty gloom seems to soak up my sorrow
The further I went on I felt a spreading calm
Then suddenly my eyes were bathed in a light
And the lovely lady in white was by my side
She said "Like me I see you're walking alone
Won't you please stay? " I couldn't look away

She said I love the night
The day is OK and the sun can be fun
But I live to see those rays slip away
I love the night
There's so much I can show and give to you
If you will welcome me tonight
If only you had been there my dear
We could have shared this together

No mortal was meant to know such wonder
One look in the mirror told me so
Come darkness I'll see her again
Yes I'm gonna go 'cause now I know

She said I love the night
The day is OK and the sun can be fun
But I live to see those rays slip away
I love the night
There's so much that I can show and give to you
If you will welcome me tonight
If only you had been there my dear
We could have shared this together

Kansas - Lamplight Symphony

On a winter's night, stars are cold and bright in the sky
The slumber of the earth is pure and deep
From a distant wood, drifts the echo of a beast
The old man stirs and awakens in the night
He stands before his window gazing at the grave
Forgotten dreams are flashing through his weary mind
And though his life is empty, he pretends that she's still there

With hunger in his soul, he yearns for life and love gone by
With memories his one and only joy
With all he has to give, he would give to bring back the life
And raise the one who lies beneath the snow
He lights a lamp and looks at pictures of the past
The faces of their youth still glow with new found love
But the picture's faded and time has stolen youth away, yeah, yeah

With a spoken word that he thought he heard from her lips
He felt another presence in the room
He was filled with fear but filled with joy he arose
And turned to face the image that he knew
She stood before him and her hand reached out for his
Peaceful light shone in her eyes
She said she'd come to soothe him and someday they'd be as one

She began to fade and her image disappeared
So he was left alone to face another night
But never in his life, had he been so held in awe
As he faced the apparition of his wife
He stood before the window gazing at the grave
And with a lightened heart he saw the first of dawn
He knew that she was waiting, that someday they'd be as one

Walking across the sitting-room, I turn the television off.
Sitting beside you, I look into your eyes.
As the sound of motor cars fades in the night time,
I swear I saw your face change, it didn't seem quite right.
...And it's hello babe with your guardian eyes so blue
Hey my baby don't you know our love is true.

Coming closer with our eyes, a distance falls around our bodies.
Out in the garden, the moon seems very bright,
Six saintly shrouded men move across the lawn slowly.
The seventh walks in front with a cross held high in hand.
...And it's hey babe your supper's waiting for you.
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true.

I've been so far from here,
Far from your warm arms.
It's good to feel you again,
It's been a long long time. Hasn't it?

[The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man]

I know a farmer who looks after the farm.
With water clear, he cares for all his harvest.
I know a fireman who looks after the fire.

You, can't you see he's fooled you all.
Yes, he's here again, can't you see he's fooled you all.
Share his peace,
Sign the lease.
He's a supersonic scientist,
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary man.
Look, look into my mouth he cries,
And all the children lost down many paths,
I bet my life you'll walk inside
Hand in hand,
gland in gland
With a spoonful of miracle,
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary.
We will rock you, rock you little snake,
We will keep you snug and warm.

[Ikhnaton And Itsacon And Their Band Of Merry Men]

Wearing feelings on our faces while our faces took a rest,
We walked across the fields to see the children of the West,
But we saw a host of dark skinned warriors
standing still below the ground,
Waiting for battle.

The fight's begun, they've been released.
Killing foe for peace...bang, bang, bang. Bang, bang, bang...
And they're giving me a wonderful potion,
'Cos I cannot contain my emotion.
And even though I'm feeling good,
Something tells me I'd better activate my prayer capsule.

Today's a day to celebrate, the foe have met their fate.
The order for rejoicing and dancing has come from our warlord.

[How Dare I Be So Beautiful?]

Wandering through the chaos the battle has left,
We climb up a mountain of human flesh,
To a plateau of green grass, and green trees full of life.
A young figure sits still by a pool,
He's been stamped "Human Bacon" by some butchery tool.
(He is you)
Social Security took care of this lad.
We watch in reverence, as Narcissus is turned to a flower.
A flower?

[Willow Farm]

If you go down to Willow Farm,
to look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies
Open your eyes, it's full of surprise, everyone lies,
like the fox on the rocks,
and the musical box.
Oh, there's Mum & Dad, and good and bad,
and everyone's happy to be here.

There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag,
he used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a drag.
The frog was a prince, the prince was a brick, the brick was an egg,
the egg was a bird.
(Fly away you sweet little thing, they're hard on your tail)
Hadn't you heard?
(They're going to change you into a human being!)
Yes, we're happy as fish and gorgeous as geese,
and wonderfully clean in the morning.

We've got everything, we're growing everything,
We've got some in
We've got some out
We've got some wild things floating about
Everyone, we're changing everyone,
you name them all,
We've had them here,
And the real stars are still to appear.

ALL CHANGE!

Feel your body melt;
Mum to mud to mad to dad
Dad diddley office, Dad diddley office,
You're all full of ball.

Dad to dam to dum to mum
Mum diddley washing, Mum diddley washing,
You're all full of ball.

Let me hear you lies, we're living this up to the eyes.
Ooee-ooee-ooee-oowaa
Momma I want you now.

And as you listen to my voice
To look for hidden doors, tidy floors, more applause.
You've been here all the time,
Like it or not, like what you got,
You're under the soil (the soil, the soil),
Yes, deep in the soil (the soil, the soil, the soil, the soil!).
So we'll end with a whistle and end with a bang
and all of us fit in our places.

[Apocalypse In 9/8 (Co-Starring the delicious talents of Gabble Ratchet)]

With the guards of Magog, swarming around,
The Pied Piper takes his children underground.
Dragons coming out of the sea,
Shimmering silver head of wisdom looking at me.
He brings down the fire from the skies,
You can tell he's doing well by the look in human eyes.
Better not compromise.
It won't be easy.

666 is no longer alone,
He's getting out the marrow in your back bone,
And the seven trumpets blowing sweet rock and roll,
Gonna blow right down inside your soul.
Pythagoras with the looking glass reflects the full moon,
In blood, he's writing the lyrics of a brand new tune.

And it's hey babe, with your guardian eyes so blue,
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true,
I've been so far from here,
Far from your loving arms,
Now I'm back again, and babe it's gonna work out fine.

[As Sure As Eggs Is Eggs (Aching Men's Feet)]

Can't you feel our souls ignite
Shedding ever changing colours, in the darkness of the fading night,
Like the river joins the ocean, as the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home.

There's an angel standing in the sun, and he's crying with a loud voice,
"This is the supper of the mighty one",
Lord of Lords,
King of Kings,
Has returned to lead his children home,
To take them to the new Jerusalem.

When the room is quiet, the daylight almost gone
It seems there's something I should know
Well, I ought to leave but the rain, it never stops
And I've no particular place to go

Just when I think I'm winning
When I've broken every door
The ghosts of my life
Blow wilder than before

Just when I thought I could not be stopped
When my chance came to be king
The ghosts of my life
Blew wilder than the wind

Well, I'm feeling nervous, now I find myself alone
The simple life's no longer there
Once I was so sure, now the doubt inside my mind
Comes and goes but leads nowhere

Just when I think I'm winning
When I've broken every door
The ghosts of my life
Blow wilder than before

Just when I thought I could not be stopped
When my chance came to be king
The ghosts of my life
Blew wilder than the wind

I haul you in a sea of silence
On the border line of truth
Hope and violence
I see no sun
I see no place I've loved
Depending on the signs to find the road
Blackwater
Take me with you
To the place that I have spoken
Come and lead me
Through the darkness
To the light that I long to see again
I walk with you
But sleep beside her
If summer came and went
It passed us over
I see her cry
I see the face I've loved
Depending on the blind to find the road
Blackwater
Take me with you
To the place that I have spoken
Come and lead me
Through the darkness
To the light that I long to see again
Blackwater
Take me with you
To the place that I have spoken
I am leaving
In the morning
For the land that I long to see again

David Ackles - 'Candy Man'

n_dQV_dgKnE

Oscar saved his money when he came home from the war.
Traded in his good left hand for payment on a store.
He said 'I'm just as good as new, who needs more hands than one?'
The old man stood when he walked through, and proudly called him son. Oscar bought a candy store in the nicest part of town, They called him the one-armed candy man, the crippled clown. And he wore their laughing licorice crown, calling 'come on down.'

Oscar laughed and waited, the loving patient man.
See the children trusting him; they do not know his plan.
He takes their copper pennies, he gives them extra treats,
Hiding little picture books in every bag of sweets. Last week a girl came crying home, 'Look what I found today I got it from the candy man, who's giving them away.' His mother said, 'Love is not that way, dear God he'll pay.'

When the parents came for Oscar, he said, 'I'm not ashamed,
I took their minds as payment due, the healthy for the maimed.'
The day he went to prison, he called 'Now do you see?
I only did to some of you what you all did to me. Oh no, I'm not the candy man; my injuries are few, But the world that made me what I am must owe me something too, And I only want what is my rightful due, from you and you.'

Randy Newman, “In Germany before the war”

http://youtu.be/I-34xJCI7MY

In Germany before the war
There was a man who owned a store
In nineteen-hundred-thirty-four
In Düsseldorf
And every night at fine-o-nine
He’d cross the park down to the Rhine
And he’d sit there by the shore

I’m looking at the river
But I’m thinking of the sea
Thinking of the sea
Thinking of the sea
I’m looking at the river
But I’m thinking of the sea

A little girl has lost her way
With hair of gold and eyes of gray
Reflected in his glasses
As he watches her
A little girl has lost her way
With hair of gold and eyes of gray

I’m looking at the river
But I’m thinking of the sea
Thinking of the sea
Thinking of the sea

We lie beneath the autumn sky
My little golden girl and I
And she lies very still
