Location: Dallas area. Just far enough north of the city that it's usually a few degrees cooler. And in the summer, that's a big deal.

Musical interests: Classic rock, modern rock, punk, bluegrass (though I know little of it), folk and folk-ish, down tempo, chill, ambient. These days I generally lean towards the mellower side with nice vocals and just a few instruments though I do enjoy a little punk rock to get the day going every now and then.

System: VPI Aries 3, 2 SL-1200's (work in progress), BDP 95, passive attenuator, currently I'm the lucky borrower of Pete Millett's PPP 807 amps, Tubelab SE (currently disassembled), some vintage tube gear, a few odd SS amps, home built ALK Cornscala's, home built OB's based on Martin King design, and I'm "storing" a pair of Vandersteen 3's for a friend.

Other: I'm one of the founders of Landfall Systems which is a "side business" we have to make and sell aluminum chassis, primarily for audio DIY-ers. We've also made a few other odds and ends now that we have a CNC router, hence the work-in-progress SL-1200's.

Hello David, you anywhere near the Gas Monkeys?

Hello David

I see 'SL1200' in your opening gambit - 2 SL1200s even. You have come to the right place! Lots of threads, advice etc on the the SL1200 /1210 here. One of the things we like, as in the US forums too I believe, are some pics of the system - so don't be shy and a 'work in progress' is particularly welcome.

PS I know everything about Dallas despite never having been there - I learned it all from JR, one of my heroes.

I'm about another 30 miles northeast. 20 or so years ago I might have lived closer, intentionally, if I had known about them. Looks like they're doing some cool stuff there.

Thanks Andrei. I was pointed here by 6L6 and one of his associates. So far I really like what I've seen. I'll get around to posting some pictures and info on my build, and my system - in keeping with common practice :)

I'm not in the oil business like JR was, so have probably missed one whole side of Dallas. I actually remember when the show started, like it was... okay, a looong time ago. I was sorry to hear of his passing.

Hi David, welcome from me.

I was a big fan of the original 'Dallas' tv show, too. Although as you say it was a long time ago and I was pretty young -I got into it because my cousin who was the babysitter insisted on watching it :)

Yea, I hear that a lot: "The babysitter made me watch it" :-)

What's a valve?? (kidding of course)

Oh gee, most of it's been stored away for a few years. Let's see, one or two HH Scott Stereomasters, one that I loaned to a friend so he can listen to headphones and not disturb his wife, a few Eico HF 20's and another model or two, some old 2A3 amps from Hammond organs (sans tubes), 3 Tandberg model 64 reel-to-reels (one or two only good for parts) and a rather nice Akai M-7 reel-to-reel (a future project for sure).

Maybe I'll dig it all out and take a picture or two. Don't hold your breath though, it may be a while.
