Transporting an SL1200

I have bought another TT, but it is 420 kms away. It has no arm or dustcover. Any tips or tricks that I can pass on to the vendor for packaging and sending. The platter should be packaged separately for sure, but anything else?

Just get a suitably sized (strong box). Layer the base generously with bubble wrap. Wrap the platter in newspaper & tape, place on top of the base layer of bubble wrap. Layer further bubble wrap layers on top of the newspaper wrapped platter. Wrap the turntable in several layers of bubble wrap all over. Place the turntable (feet down) on top of the bubble wrap covered platter. Add further layers of bubble wrap to the sides & top of the wrapped turntable - ensuring an extremely tight fit with the strong box. Tape up the strong box & wrap in several layers of bubble wrap all over & place in another strong, slightly larger box ensuring once again a very tight fit. Wrap the outer box genorously with several layers of bubble wrap. I am confident packed this way the turntable would easily withstand a drop from 4 feet or so.

Andrei, if that is a worry, why don't you get in the car and go get. The distance is about the same as London to the Lake District and on New Zealand roads shouldn't take more than a day there and back, 10-11 hours tops. Lovely scenery, fresh air, what more could you want. Of course if you have to go to the South Island then please ignore this post as that would take at least two days.

The TT is in Auckland and I have done that Napier to Auckland trip too many times. There is nothing but bloody scenery, a mountain pass, and demons (traffic police) lurking round every bend.

I know the scenery, the mountain pass was a great drive but I did not see any demons on my route. In fact I found the driving on the North Island easier than the South Island due to the fact that you go around a bend and hay presto there's another bend coming up. Somebody should tell the powers that be in New Zealand how the Romans built roads, long and straight.

However we digress. Get the seller to pack it carefully as 'markx' suggests.

In addition use two pices of strong cardboard, one on top of the bubble wrap covered platter (which the table can sit on) and one taped to the top of the table (in place of the lid).

Thanks for help guys. Actually I had a 'senior moment'. I sent instructions for tying down the tonearm, but then had to retract that as I am buying sans tonearm. Doh!
I am going to use the TT to do some experimental heart surgery (see recent KAB thread). Then I will service the beast, add my spare tonearm, dampen the platter and sell it on.
