Hi
Has anybody had the chance to try the caiman 2 as a preamp.
I would love to hear how you think it performs.
I am using a mdac as a pre into a series 7 and not liking it much. Sounds much nicer through a passive but with a loss of dynamics.
The mdac is sounding thin and closed in as a pre but it has dynamics.

I tried mine as a pre and musically it sounded really good.
However i then noticed a low hum, i've earthed to the amp etc but it still persists.
I tried with the Caiman Dac, sound not as good as a pre but the hum went away.

I've reverted back to just headphone duties.

I use the Caiman II as a preamp in front of a valve power amp driving Wharfdale speakers. It works well for me with no hums etc. Great clarity. I could use a little more gain, but that is down to the low power from the valves, and fairly inefficient speakers! I'm building a more powerful mosfet amp at the moment, so I'll try out that combination sometime in the New Year.
