Interconnect Connectors how important?
Can they make or break a cable? How much should one spend on the cable itself/ connectors?
Just for fun and learning.
I wrote a comparison of four (or five) different connectors fitted to the same cable (thanks to Mark Grant). I dare say it can be found if you use the search function (I'll have a look in a bit).
Can the connector make or break a cable? That's a difficult one to quantify, depends on the individual and how they weigh the differences up. My experience is that the cable makes a difference, the geometry makes a difference and the connector makes a difference - together they form the whole (obviously). It's not easy to apportion importance to each element but good connectors are worth it IMO - my clear preference is for the KLE. Harmony plugs (silver on copper at £45 for four) or, if you can stretch to it the Silver at £70 for four.
Here is the connector comparison:

When I wrote the above the KLE Harmony didn't exist and I had only just started using the Eichmann plugs on my own cables - as Mark Grant hadn't, at that time, started using the Eichmann's they aren't in the comparison but I did have a cable fitted with them and I thought that outperformed all the cables in the comparative test.
Thanks Mark will have a gander.:)
