Can anyone suggest a pair of speakers that can be bought cheaply which respond to modifications like crossover refurbishments and bracing etc. Preferably a larger set of standmounts . I'm looking for something cheap and cheerful to play around with .

Mordaunt Short Pageant II, Celestion Ditton 15 and Mission 780SE!
Oh, and any seventies AR speakers. AR4xa is a good one, cloth surrounds that never rot!

I've replaced the electrolytic capacitors for polypropylene in various speakers over the years with some success. The one the responded the best was the budget Mission M70, so there's a good chance that the Mission M71, M72 and M73 would also benefit.
