It seems that Rega doesn´t believe that cables need to be expensive or beeing made of esoteric copper! The Rega Reference mains lead is a Lapp Kabel and the previous interconnect was a Klotz! The Lapp is an industrial cable and the Klotz a guitar cable, I think!

Nope, and they don't have to be Rega either.

You can make your own.

Although I will say that for the price their quattro speaker cable is excellent. It comes as 4 lengths on a strip so you only buy half the amount you need and then split the cable to make a stereo pair. Last time I checked it was around £4 a metre.

Even the Rega Reference mains lead is expensive. They use ABL Sursum schuko(3,50€) Martin Kaiser IEC(5,5€) and a Lapp Kabel that costs 2 € meter!

I've got one called Derek. :)

Cables just need to be good. Price is immaterial!

Can you recommend the best sounding knitting needles to go for Mark, don't want to use cheap shite otherwise the completed cable might end up sounding a little bland... :D

Unfortunately that's the issue. The best are made from a titanium core wrapped in carbon fibre and topped with bog ebony. As such they cost 2K a pair.

I don't think it is necessary to have expensive cables as long as you can make the cheaper ones work in your system... ;)

I mean who want's to spend their hard earned money if it's not necessary ? nobody, of course.... that would just be crazy wouldn't it ?? :mental:

I have a mix of second hand stuff that have names etc(got a couple off Marco at good price) and cheap ones. Depending where I'm using them, the cheap ones do as well and sometimes better the supposedly quality ones.... as most will tell you, just try them out, including the cheaper ones and pick what you like. try them in different positions etc.

You shouldn't need to spend over £100 on an interconnect IMO, and that's assuming it uses expensive components in its construction. If a system needs very expensive cables to perform there is something wrong.

the only thing essential with a cable is that it has a name

And if it has Russ Andrews on it, IT IS expensive
