Oooooh....nice, especially the turntable. :)

Good to see the wee JPW MM's doing service - I got a pair of these off eBay recently for just over a tenner. Fabulous little things...music music music. Not a huge amount else but for that much who cares?? :)

Thanks for the comments about the turntable, we've only had it a couple of months. We are very pleased with it.:). We upgraded from a Rega Planer 3 which we got when they came out in 1977 I think. It had the "S" shaped silver arm them.

The JPW spekers are Sonata's I think. I have a pair of the Mini Monitors I use them with my PC.

Sonata's

http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk320/baron103/ae9cc7aa.jpg

Mini Monitors. They are on the Sonata stands.

The rest of my computer system, which is in a loft conversion consists of:

http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk320/baron103/2b51088c.jpg

Sugden A48 amp, Goldring GL75 with the old Rega arm and cartridge.

http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk320/baron103/f3e37f54.jpg

Tangent RS4 speakers and or the Mini monitors. With a switchable TEAC sub.

The amp is connected to the PC so I can playback and record to and from the PC.

Baron,

You and your wife have a series of pretty impressive systems.

Great pics Baron :)

Haven't seen Sonatas with a dome tweeter before - were these, like the MM Golds, a 'super' version? They usually had the Audax tweeter, as you show in the picture of your MM's.

Every now and again I take my MM's away from the indignity of being used on the end of the Sony mini system in the bedroom and hook them up to the hifi downstairs. On the end of plenty of amp they sound just fabulous. No wonder JPW sold thousands of these little things - and they have a speed and tautness in the bass that only a good sealed box can produce.

I like the RS4's aswell - remember owning a pair of the tiny Tangent SPL1's many moons ago.

I've just found the bill they were called Sonata Plus. If I remember correctly they had titanium tweeters. They cost £129.00 a pair in 1990, and the stands cost £45.00. I've just seen a pair of JPW SONATA SPEAKERS on ebay for £25.00 buy it now price.

Hi Baron

I don't know how I missed your set up....very nice. Love the Omega drive, I once had the loan of one for a month....very nice indeed. One thing worth playing with is a platform or say RDC platform for underneath it. I found it to be fussy about what it sat on the best option that doesn't mess up the look would be a set of RDC cups, into which the cones under the player can sit into. You should have a play with some isolation...I know you will be surprised by what you hear.

Mains leads too make a difference with this Shanling as well.

Thanks for the comments Neil, funnily enough I was going to look into isolation, I'll start with a set of the RDC cups I think. I've got my own filtered mains lead/block fitted which seams to work ok.

Hi Baron

The Dais is a fantastic TT I have owned one a couple of years ago, had it fitted with 2 arm boards. One with the NA Ace Space the other a Graham Phantom. If you really want to hear how truely great the Dais can sound I'd give one a serious try.

I have the Feickert alignment guage too, great bit of kit. Love it.

Yes Andy, I really like the Dais. We only intended to get a Hyperspace but when we heard the Dais we had to have it. I used it for a year with the RB 300 which was good, but when the chance came to buy an ex-demo 12" Ace Space I could not resist

The Feickert alignment gauge came from Peter Stockwell, who was selling it a month ago. Thanks Peter. I have 4 turntables so it will be quite useful.

When I visited Notts Analogue Tom Fletcher was working on a prototype of the Dais. I was invited to lift the platter and nearly put my back out - much to Tom's amusement.

I didn't love his demo system - I thought the speakers were to blame and sounded dull and uninterested. But I did very much enjoy his hospitality and his record collection.

Yes I bought a turntable and a twelve inch arm.....

I've just fitted my RB300 arm to my GL75 in my loft system. It sounds very good. I'll post some pictures when I tidy up, its a bit of a mess at the moment. :bog:
Next job is to build a better plinth. :idea:Ideas please. Must be Quick and easy ;)

Hi Philip

This is what my Lenco Looks like, it might give you some ideas for your plinth

Top and bottom are Beech Butchers Blocks and the deck is attached to a combination of laminations of Ply and MDF, the underside of the Lenco is damped with Dynamat and shaped Ply.

The bottom of the Silver supports are I think Ceraballs, 2 dished cups with a ball bearing seperating them, were effective in deed.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Andy,
I was thinking of butchers blocks. When you cut the corner out to accommodate your arm how did you support the top plate afterwards? At the moment as a temporary measure I've just drilled a new hole for the RB300. :)

Hi Philip

As the depth of the wooden block is greater than the depth of the Rega Arm pillar, the solution was to make it a tight interference fit. Not totally ideal but a very good solution, to stop the arm rotating there is a small device the sits aside the arm piece that has the Bias adjuster on it and tonearm clamp, I also have an Ian Wrigglesworth VTA adjuster on the Rega arm. Hope that makes some sort of sense to you, if not I can take a photo if it helps. Technically it is not a brilliant solution but it works very well in deed, the sonic results are excellent and gives my main TT a good run for it’s money.

Thanks Andy.
It would be nice to see a colseup of the arm piller aera if its not to much trouble.

I'm about to try a couple of TT projects using cutting boards/butcher's blocks but was worried that they'd fall to bits having a great hole cut out. Any problems ?

You couldn't get much simpler than this:

It sounds great I think... you could make it heavier my adding a few extra layers but for me this is fine... If you want any other pics of the underneath etc let me know.

 ;) Already done, Marco! It has however dropped a long way from the front page.

If there's any interest I could do some nudie shots - it's a very basic plinth but it seems to tick the boxes :)
