NAD av reciever..duff volume pot.

I recently bought a NAD T744 av receiver off the bay for a VERY small price.
on plugging in I found the volume pot to be non responsive to manual adjustment, but the volume can be driven via the remote.
the amp is presently being used in vanilla stereo with no probs but the non responsive pot is slightly bugging me.
it is a continuously variably unit with no endstops, a type I have no experience of. come to think of it I have never been inside a modern av amp!

can anyone offer advice regarding a quick fix...can I use switch cleaner on these types of pot??

If the control continually rotates and the volume can still be changed by remote control, then it's not a pot at all but a rotary encoder. These are quite different to a potentiometer and have no internals that can be squirted with switch cleaner.

The only solution is to identify it and replace it.

Armour Home LTD (http://www.armourhome.co.uk/) used to distribute NAD gear in the UK, not sure whether they still do though. They were very helpful when I was looking for spares for a NAD C350 integrated amp. They sourced a motorised volume pot for mine for 12 quid and sourced a new top panel from Canada, flew it to the UK and then supplied it to me FOC. Now that is terrific customer service considering the C350 had been out of production for around ten years in 2010 ;)

update..
after much button pressing, knob twiddling I have discovered the volume control works fine on DIGITAL inputs but not on onboard radio or any analogue inputs!!

never had a prob with setting up and using stereo and av kit before but I feel I'm missing something pretty basic here.

p.s, I have done the logic reset as per the manual.....a simple power down and unplug.
