Hi,
I've been an audio enthuisast for many years but have gotten away from my audio system for the last 20 or so years. Have been busy running a business and raising a family. Now with a little more time on my hands I'm getting back into the audio realm. This time a little more upscale. I bagged the my "Holy Grail" of speakers a couple of weeks ago. A set of 'mint" Infinity IRS Beta's. I have 2 VTL 450 Monoblocks to drive the mid/high towers and a Phase Linear 400 for the woofer columns. I have not decided on a pre-amp yet. I'm torn between staying Solid state and going tube. I want to have an external processor loop for my 3bx ds and my SAE 2800 parametric equalizer when the need is there for some recordings. My tuntable is a Technics SL-1400 MK II. I can't wait to get it all up and running.

Hello and welcome. That system sounds like a nice work in progress. We'd love to see some pics when you get there.
We're visiting Florida again for Christmas this year, a few days driving and staying in Key West and Islamorada then visiting family in Kissimmee. Any excuse to escape the British winter.

All the best

Rich

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum from me too.

A tube pre-amp with a sold state power amp is a combination I've used often, it generally works well. Let us know what you choose.

What cartridge will you be using in the SL-1400?

Also, tell us what music you listen to.

Enjoy AOS,
Geofff.

I'll be using a Shure V15 Type IV cartridge, I also have a Pickering and a Shure M91 somewhere too. I listen to many types of music, classical, big band from the 30's and 40's, and music from my era, the 60's and 70's, disco excluded. I'm a Canadian ex pat living in Florida for the past 23 years. I'll post more pictures when I get things together. It may take a couple of months. I'm debating whether I should put the system in a separate "listening room" or in the family room and incorporate the system with the home theater. The fellow I bought the Betas from had the servo controller modified with a switch so that I could use two differnt preamps in the system. I can use one for the home theater snd one strictly for the audio.

The Infiinitys look brand new. The fellow I bought them from babied them. He told me to bring gloves when I came to pick them up so I wouldn't get fingerprints on the wood finish when boxing them. They came with the original boxes. . All the woofers were refoamed and the 2 EMIMS are new. They came from the last stock of EMIMs from Infinity. Can't wait to hook it all up.
