View Full Version : Blind Faith is BANNED on Ebay

Hi all.

I've recently been selling a copy of Blind Faith's debut LP on ebay. After it was re-listed due to not selling for a week it got immediately pulled by ebay due to not complying with their policy of nudity. The sleeve is the nude sleeve and so I promptly edited the image to (fully) block out the nudity part of the cover just leaving the head in view. I also placed a note on the sale explaining what I did and the reasons why.

After a few hours of the listing becoming live it was again pulled. I swiftly filed a complaint through ebay asking for an explanation.

4 days later I got a reply. Now, OK.. I agree the sleeve (these days) is a little risque but before I placed the listing I checked and found numerous other sellers selling the same LP/CD with the sleeve in full blown high def where as mine was in a lot of LP's and was really not as visible.

To my astonishment I read this...

"I've reviewed your listing details and found that the action was taken in-line to eBay policies. Please realize that LP records of "Blind Faith" -1969 version is strictly prohibited on eBay.co.uk and eBay.co.ie because its cover doesn't comply with our 'Minor' policy. Moreover, records of "Blind Faith" - 1969 version have some explicit lyrics and contents, due to which this item is strictly not allowed on eBay. Please know that this item is not allowed to be listed on the site with or without its cover image in the listing.
I would like to inform you may relist the other items after excluding “Blindfaith” LP."

O.K, so moving away from the nudity part (as I said, was corrected), this is what got me.... "Moreover, records of "Blind Faith" - 1969 version have some explicit lyrics and contents, due to which this item is strictly not allowed on eBay."

Errr... explict lyrics?... No, but (excuse the explicit lyrics, but) what a load of wank!

Ebay sell (if you look hard enough) some real dodgy stuff so why pick on me... and why pick on Blind Faith and not Eminem or some old geezers wank mag? The LP is still being pressed and still has the same cover to my knowledge. The LP does not have an advisory warning because it doesn't need one.

I've complained again, so this is an ongoing saga.

It's tricky nowadays. The Blind Faith cover does look rather peodo with today's eyes. ebay probably are probably being cautious and want nothing to do with it.

Some lyrics by various bands are dodgy, for example The Doors...."looking for the next little girl", I think Jethro Tull have similar words.

strange decision considering just typing 'porn' into the search bar brings up the following page.

Just draw their attention to how many auctions they allow for the likes of 50 shades of Grey

The girl on the cover in question looks about 14...this is likely the issue.

Too right... I'd be the first to agree about the cover, Clive to which I complied 'Fully' with Ebay on that part. But with that set aside the most baffling thing was about the lyrics and the fact that other sellers are selling the same LP with a full size image too!!

If they are going to ban the LP, then at least ban it.... lol

Exactly and I'm sure there will be other dodgy stuff on there too.

Fair do's I've had some issues with ebay and use them less and less. I feel you'll never get a proper reply from ebay.

Well that might be the case but it will be interesting to hear what they have to say.

Very true, Andy... it's one of my faves too, it's all peace and love with a massive drum solo, lol... just selling this one as I've now got the current double LP remaster. (same sleeve!!)

A London seller has it listed right now with cover shown priced at £14.33.

And what about all the "Parental Advisory" shite that will be listed?

There has been trouble before about the cover of the Blind Faith album - it's nonsense of course but let's face it there are more fuckwits in the world now than there ever were - but it would seem that whoever responded at eBay is getting a little confused when mentioning the lyrics...best not tell them what Steely Dan's 'Everyone's gone to the Movies' is all about...

Edit: correction - there are probably just as many fuckwits now as there always were it is just the problem these days is that too many people take them seriously instead of just laughing at them and walking on by.

And that's the first one that comes to mind, must be loads more I have in my collection.

Juicy Lucy could be soon after, except a bit rare

The Scorpions 'Virgin Killer' cover caused a kerfuffle a few years back when the Internet Watch Foundation placed it on their banned image list following a complaint. This caused several UK ISPs to block access to the Wikipedia page for the album with wider implications that prevented many UK users from editing any Wikipedia entries. They changed their minds after a few days and rescinded the ban,

But if Mr Speedy Hen can list it, then why can't Mr Black Adder?

Precisely, and so an explanation is needed that is so solid you could hang a concrete coat from it.

What about the original 'Appetite For Destruction' cover?

Someone put up a fake listing for an original 'Smell The Glove' and see what happens....

Was that one of James Last's later contemporary offerings?

Yup, I bought the original GNR album off Ebay with no problems.

Also where do you stop, Nirvana's Nevermind has a baby's penis on it, Led Zepp's Houses of the Holy has naked children on it....

I've just checked and found a copy of Mayhem's Dawn Of The Black Hearts on vinyl that has a horrific cover (The graphic photo of the previous singer's suicide scene) uncensored
Don't click if you're squeamish (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mayhem-Dawn-of-the-Black-Hearts-LP-on-Purple-Vinyl-Morbid-Black-Metal-Live-NEW-/321493891471?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4ada87798f)

David St. Hubbins: "You know, if we were serious and we said, ‘Yes, she should be forced to smell the glove,’ then you’d have a point, but it’s all a joke."

Nigel Tufnel: "It is and it isn’t. She should be made to smell it, but..."

David: "But not, you know, over and over."

Funnily enough I was watching "The Joy Of Easy Listening" last night. Wasn't aware it was Bert Kaemfert that signed The Beatles to Polydor in Germany. He liked their music.

An update...

"Thank you for contacting us again. My name is Amit and I’m pleased to assist your query regarding Blind Faith listing removal (item no. 121422553611).

From the previous conversation, I can see that my colleague Shyam was in assistance with you.

First of all, I apologize for previous miscommunication about content of the Blind Faith lyrics.

I understand your point that it should be allowed without cover as it has no explicit content; however, we have put a blanket ban on sale of Blind Faith LP record listings due to its controversial cover covering a nude minor girl as it breaches our Minor policy. I also discussed the removal with our Policy Experts and they informed that there is no exception to list this item on the site.

As a courtesy, we will remove the policy breach from your account and this removal will not affect your account adversely anymore.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Kind regards,

Amit S.

Obviously that is a very satisfactory reply and you can't argue with that. I didn't know that things like that put a black mark against you as an ebay member though.

As for other sleeves with explicit images I'm sure ebay are chewing their way through them.

I remember when it came out we chuckled a bit and moved on, not fancying a little girl

Unfortunately I agree the pic should go on 2014. Probably not so clever on first release, had we but known
:(
