View Full Version : XBMC (Kodi) media player
Just discovered this fantastic bit of software - free download at http://xbmc.org
I was looking for a player to run on my MacBook Air that in addition to playing iTunes would let me play FLAC (and other audio files) and came across this.
Works flawlessly - even better there is a remote app for IOS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPTpjGxIJGk). This took a little setting up and had to configure the Mac OS X firewall but once set up it's very powerful.
Anyone else using it?
Steve
I'm running frodo at the moment, I assume kodi is the latest release?
Yes it is. This release is titled Gotham and is the last to be released under the XBMC name - all future ones will be under the Kodi name.
How have you found frodo?
Used it for many years now, starting on a hacked xbox and now on original ATVs with wifi card swapped for a HD card. Brilliant media player solution

It's a great it of software. Currently running it on a Pi which replaced an ATV2. Might look to try running it on a Cubox i4pro later in the year.
I've found YATSE to be an easier remote to set up and use on Android than the official IOS one.
Looks interesting. I've just started with a Pi so worth a closer look. Thanks for the post

I've used it for a few years, it's the perfect entertainment solution. I have a server in the hallway connected to my router and a custom made music server with built in video processing under my TV.
So simple to use, great sound, all my music, films and photos at the press of a button. Wouldn't be without it :)

really good, couple with a Logitech harmony even the mrs can use it.
I get an occasional lockup, which I suspect is hardware related and only happens if the box hasn't been used for a couple of days, but being the Linux version (running xbmcbuntu) you can just do a hard power off/power on and its back again
I have a mate who uses the PVT functionality as well and is most impressed
Great for mashup movies :)
