Brian you are right that tomorrow is another day but this is not going to get better anytime soon i'm afraid.....
I care for someone who is quite unwell and sometimes things are said that are very upsetting when you have put your own life 'on-hold' for them....
It's a pretty upsetting time when that happens..... I'm a very sensitive sort I am afraid...... :(

I'm trying to deaden the thoughts a bit at the mo but that's probably not going to help long-term....but seems a good idea for now... ;)

The bike i've made an offer on is not the fastest thing on earth, however it does have a low seat height which to be fair is the most important thing at the moment... I am such a 'short arse'..... and I've not ridden a bike for some years... However the really silly offer I've made probably won't be accepted but you never know do you ??? :D
I liked my suzi gt in the day.......I will stick to the car now as I couldn't get my leg over now :doh:. But if you can then why not..live your life to the full lass, you only get the one. ;)

My last bike was a superb Honda Hornet 600..... The first time I rode this bike I thought it should be made "illegal" as I thought it was sooo fast ... a real eye opener....
I have a real fondness for anything Honda.... and the little Honda I've made an offer on is a lovely little cruiser type.... If I get the bike at what i've offered I would have stolen it.... !!! You never know do you.... it's a sweet little bike.... :D

Funny you should say that. I've got a serious hankering for a Suzuki SV-1000S. Lightish and compact enough for a not very large bloke like me and damn quick, sounds lovely with a set of sport pipes. Big V twin rumble and thump!!

Grant I am sure you would be able to get your 'leg-over' my little Honda that I've made an offer on.... it's a little Honda Rebel 250..... Not anything like the Hornet I last rode but when I had the Hornet I kept chucking it on the ground as I just couldn't get my feet anywhere near the road as the seat was just too high.....even after having a load of stuffing cut out of the seat I still was a 'short-arse' for it really
I am looking for maybe only 10% of what the thrill the Hornet gave to me so I am really hoping the Rebel will come to me, but you never know...
I think anything that gives me just a little adrenaline rush would be good for my system at the moment

Brian I have to agree with you in some ways BUT SOMETIMES an escape from the real world is necessary I think and a fast bike ride give’s that to me..... . !
Having owned a fast bike in the past I know it does give you a thrill and I think that would be good at the moment..... with the Hornet I used to get to my destination and think "i've made it in one piece" and the adrenaline rush was very addictive, and I miss that feeling....It makes you feel alive
The only other thing I've done that maked me feel like a 'fast bike ride' was hang gliding.... If I didn't have hand shakes when I landed then I was obviously dead... if that makes sense..... I was hang gliding for many years and the feeling of a total 'rush' never left me.. it was always a thrill to be safely back on terra firma
Unfortunately you've always got to come down to earth, one of life's constants :(

It’s tough (physically and emotionally) being a carer, and as you’ve described, it can sometimes be a thankless task… Take encouragement and strength from the fact that you’re doing a good thing, and stay focussed on that, but also make sure you factor in some ‘me time’, which it sounds like you’re doing! :)
Don’t worry, you’ll get your rewards in heaven... ;)

Bev, Marco has offered some sound advice (post 30). If you are a carer it's important that you care for Bev as well (the old question, who cares for the carers). If you overstretch yourself and collapse, physically or emotionally, you are no use to yourself or to the person you are caring for. I wouldn't call it escapism or being selfish, some time for Bev, doing things that Bev enjoys, is necessary to readdress the balance. So, find some time to kick off your shoes and settle back with a nice glass of something and a favourite disc playing :)

Actually I can vouch for this from personal experience. Whenever I got sick with a cold I would always go to work and the basis that I may as well be at work. Then I had a job with an abusive employer. I got sick and thought: 'stuff it, I'm staying home'. Well I recovered much more quickly! Since then my thinking has always been that by looking after myself I am in fact benefiting others as well.
Yes, sound advice Bev.I've been a carer for 16 years 24/7/365. You have to make time for you, even if its just an hour once and a while. I get 3 hr's on a Wednesday that are mine. I enjoy them

I had a peek at a Rebel after you mentioned it the other day Bev and blow me down, I thought, I recognise that little 250cc motor. I last saw one of those in an old Honda 250 Superdream, bloody good engine too, they were built to last. I'm sure Honda have done their thing and brought it bang up to date though, therefore I reckon the little Rebel will be a good proposition and knowing Honda as I do, it'll be a great ride too ;)

Don't worry about the engine Bev they really are bulletproof and quite rev happy, sound good under throttle too especially with a sports can. If this falls through, and if you can find one, my fave small Honda is the VT250 V twin. Superb little four stroke sports bike which goes like the proverbial poo off a spade...

Very nice Dave... and I love V Twins... my first bike was a Honda VT125 Shadow and it was brilliant.... I love the V Twin burble... that is the only thing agaist the little Rebel it being a parallel twin they just don't sound so good...but I know they are still a good engine
The only thing against the VT250 is the seat height, it's not massive but still a bit more than the Rebel and my leggies are just sooo short... :doh:

Got the bike today....
It's very cute... needs a jolly good clean and the chrome going over a bit but I am sure it's fine underneath the dirt.. it's a bike that has been used pretty much every day so I knew it wouldn't be immaculate, and it certainly isn't.. but it will do me just fine to get me back into it..
It rides pretty well to be honest and for a custom 250cc it gets off the line quite sharp'ish...
The best thing is that I can flat foot it and that really helps me, it's probably the first bike i've had where I can do that...
Being a 250cc 4 stroker it will also drink petrol sparingly, which is a very good thing ;)

Hope so Dave... I think he said he got about 180miles to a tank + 20 miles on reserve.. I think the tank is just over 2 gallons...
I've just wiped over a bit of what I thought was rust on the nearside exhaust which has turned out to be just dirt, so that's a result, as one of the reasons I knocked him down was due to the bit of rust....
I stole the bike to be honest.... :D:D

What follows is a moving Indian story that I read to my children. I was reminded of it by the pearl of wisdom that Struth submitted.
In the very olden times, there was once a great queen. This queen had many, many servants to take care of every task. One particular servant was responsible for bringing water from the well to the queen's table. However, it was a long journey from the castle to the well from which fresh, clean and pure water could be obtained. As this was the time before cars and other convenient machines, the servant carried two buckets - one attached to each end of a long stick - to transport water back to the castle. One of the buckets was new - it shone in the sunlight and it was perfect in every way. The other bucket was older and it had a small hole on one side which caused water to leak from it onto the ground, along the road back to the castle.
Thus, whenever, the servant arrived back to the castle, although he had filled 2 buckets of water, he had only 1½ to present to the queen. This caused the leaky bucket great distress. Twice a day when the servant picked up the buckets to go to the well, the older one would look longingly at the new one, “Oh, why can't I be as shiny and flawless as the other?” the bucket would bemoan. The leaky bucket would cast envious looks at the new bucket since not a single drop fell from its new, glistening metal. It tried every possible way of shifting its weight, of rotating its sides to minimize the leakage, but all to no avail. It could retain no more than 1/2 bucket through the long walk back to the castle.
One day, the leaking bucket was distraught and cried out to the servant, "why don't you just throw me away? I'm of no use to you. I can do barely 1/2 the work of your new bucket. You have to walk such a long way back and forth to the well and I leak out half of the water you fill me with. The queen is such a good, noble, divine queen. I want to serve her as well as your new. But I can't; I can't even give her a full bucket of water."
The servant was very wise (sometimes wisdom lies hidden in places where we don't expect it). He said to the bucket, "Look down. Look below you on the path to the castle, the path upon which you leak your water." The bucket at first was too ashamed to look and see drops of precious water scattered on the ground. When it finally looked, however, it noticed a thick row of beautiful flowers - so many lush, blossoming varieties - lining the path with vibrancy and beauty.
"Every day I pick these flowers to decorate the queen’s table and her room," the servant said. "When I noticed that you were leaking, I planted seeds all along the path on your side of the road. Then, twice a day you come and water them. Now, they have grown and blossomed into the queen's favourite centerpiece. She says their fragrance calms her mind and brings peace to her heart. So, you see, you are not useless at all. Rather, you are serving two purposes - both to bring water and to bring beautiful flowers to the queen's castle."

I normally use Autosol paste for chrome and always found it very good indeed but I never thought of alu foil or steel wool, of which I have both somewhere

I'm 'made-up' with her.. I just love Honda's, this is my 4th one....they seem to have such a high build quality

Well the weather looks great for the next few days in Portsmouth, so I will definitely be riding my new Honda as much as I can over the next few days... I am certainly very rusty ride wise, but the little Rebel is very forgiving...

Well, if you haven't been riding for a while, don't forget to take your softest cushion with you, otherwise that saddle will be leaving its impression! :lol:
Thanks Geoff.... I think my behind will definitely be showing some signs of buttons after riding it for a few miles around Portsmouth...ouchy.. poor behind.... !!!
The relaxed 'custom ride' the Rebel gives I think will be well suited with a 'cruise' along the sea front..... I am so glad I live close to the sea... just love cruising and nodding to all the other riders that will be doing exactly the same thing over the weekend ....!!
I'm a real laid back rider these days......

I've already tried some t-cut on the tank which was showing some little scrapes and so far it has all come off very nicely... tomorrow I will be taking some 'muck-off' to the rather greasy bits on the wheels so I hope they will be shining again some time soon
I still think there is a nice bike underneath trying to get out...!!

Hi Bev. If you have any minor scratches in the red paint finish, get some red 'Colour Back' polish from the local car bits shop. It'll help hide the worst marks.
If you're planning to ride the bike through the approaching winter. Wipe Vaseline or silicone grease on the spokes and rims and any vulnerable chrome and alloy.

Well i've spent a little time on the Rebel and she is now pretty shiny.. just a couple of patches of pitted chrome but nothing to worry about at all
The exhaust, chrome crash bars and chrome wheels now look like new and the frame looks to be in superb condition as well
I used a red t-cut type thing on the red paintwork and that's also come up very well...
I'm well happy with her and NOW I can take her out for a ride.....I just couldn't ride her before I got her to shine... I just can't do that.. Which is strange because I don't give a damn what my car looks like ie. unwashed etc etc but I always care what my bikes look like...
As the weather looks superb here for tomorrow I will definitely be 'cruising' down the seafront.... can't wait.... :D

Now Brian that sounds like a super idea.... fish n' chips on the seafront by Honda power.... sounds like a perfect day to me... well I like the fish bit but not too keen on the chip front.... I'm on a diet you know !!
I'm well made-up about my new toy...!! I just knew there was a really decent bike trying to get out from under all the muck.... :D:D:D
I've also found out that she starts 'on-the-button' too which is typical Honda in my experience.... just got to 'breathe' on the starter and she's away ;)

For one reason or another I did not manage to get the bike out cruising today.... I'd love to take her out right now but I've had a couple of glasses of wine so probably have to wait until tomorrow, but I am soooo tempted to take her out right now....
Weather still looks nice and hot for tomorrow though .... :D

Well Bev. I'd not advise a ride after a drink, but I must admit, I used to go to the boozer on my Honda about thirty five years ago and come back a bit worse for wear.

I know how you're feeling Bev, me too with the new paramotor. I've managed 3 flights with it now, hope you get as much :yay::rock: with the bike.

Well i've just come back from a bit of a blast on the Rebel....my word am I rusty bike wise.... my riding was rubbish.... :doh:
The bike goes amazingly well for a little 250cc though and certainly I need nothing bigger at the moment while I'm re-learning the skill...
I can't believe it is 5 years since I last rode a bike...far too long..
What I can confirm though is, even with a little 250, it is still a buzz... :eek::eek:

Did you know your bike is derived from the CB250 Nighthawk custom cruiser. (or town dispatcher's favourite for years)

I know the bike's engine etc goes back to the ark... no bad thing I think to be honest....as it is still very good even today..
I love her to bits... I know, I know.. I am sad.... but I do.... :lol::lol::lol:

No. The engine evolved from a seventies/eighties 125/185/200. The 60's CB72 250 was totally different (lovely bike). Replaced by the first CB250 in 1968 I believe (not the same bike as yours)

Which went like the clappers! I used to get Jag drivers asking me what such a small bike was that left them behind so quickly.
It was also faster than the then favourites Yamaha RD-400E and newly on the market Triumph 750 Bonneville!

After looking at various bikes over the years I have to say, of the Japanese bikes, Kawasaki were the least well finished bikes in my opinion..
I would judge the Japanese bikes as follows:
Honda
Yamaha
Suzuki
Kawasaki
That's just my opinion of course, but that's what I felt the bikes were, "finish wise"....
Ride wise I have only riden Honda and Yamaha, so can't really comment on their riding prowess.... however I ALWAYS seem to come back to Honda overall... ;)
