Hi All

I'm after a set of headphones. My budget is £100 and anything will be considered. Let me know if you have anything suitable.

+1 for the 668B's. I own a pair and they are easily the best sounding 'phones I've owned, you will need to replace the truly awful plastic pads with velour items though unless you enjoy having sweaty ears ;)

Hi

I have a pair of Audio Technica headphones. I forget the model, but they cost about £150. Surely the Superlux can't be as good as those?

Just do a Google search Darren the reviews are astonishing from the headfi sites in fact there's a massive thread on one of those sites.

Anyway for £30 it's a complete no brainer as moving them on wouldn't be difficult.

Aye that's a good tip Dave, if you buy from Amazon I think there's an option to buy the velour pads too for the same postage costs, I never bothered as I don't use them much but your ears do indeed melt with the plastic pads.

From that Amazon link

"The standard pleather pads can be replaced with AKG K240 / K270 pads"

Buy the headphones and pads here below and combine the postage.

I'm just a happy punter and have no connection to the sellers in the links.

To be honest Darren it's not always a good idea to equate cost with quality. I can't say whether the 668B's will be better or worse sounding than your AT's, only you can decide that which means you'll need to listen to a pair, however for thirty quid they have to be worth a punt. I've compared mine to Grado SR60i/ 80i's(the latter were modified) and a classic pair of Sennheiser HD450's and I much prefer the 668B's for their transparency and slam in the bass department.

Incidentally, a sound engineer friend of mine listened to my 668B's yesterday and commented that they were better than his trusty AKG 240's, which is high praise.

I've got a pair of hardly used Philips Fidelio X1's in mint condition (with replacement QED Profile cable) I might consider parting with. I'd be wanting £160 plus postage for them tho'. They sound absolutely gorgeous with a big soundstage and easy to drive. Google the reviews. I've just bought some sennie HD600's and I've got far too many pairs of headphones already !!

PM me if interested, Steve

Great headphones IMO....... a steal at £80. Whenever I've bought from Amazon Warehouse the item has been in new condition despite being described as used. Usually its because the seal on the box has been broken or slightly damaged packaging... and you've got a month to send them back (I think)

Hi Steve

What's the lowest you would go, bearing in mind they are £150 new from Amazon.

Hi Darren,

Yeah I see that, the price has dropped quite a bit on Amazon recently (presumably because the X2's have just been launched) Don't forget I offered to include the aftermarket QED cable (£22) which is needed as there's issues with the resistance of the stock one.

Mine are up on ebay at the moment http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251677349041?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

A pair sold earlier in the week for £125 after a lot of bidding activity so I would expect to get that if not a bit more. There's 23 people watching and still 3 days left. Can't really withdraw them this far into the auction, it wouldn't be fair on the other bidders and watchers. You should of got back to me when I posted and I'd have struck a deal.

If you want to bid on them and win, you can pm me through this forum and I'll return your £10 postage as a goodwill gesture to a fellow AOS member.

They really are a good listen, with a big soundstage and rich tone. There's lots about them on google.

Cheers, Steve

Hi All

Still looking for some quality headphones. My budget is up to £200. I can buy new VAT free, so they will have to be competitively priced. I say this not to knock people down, just to stop people wasting their time with an offer that may be great value in the UK, but not necessary to me.

Anything considered. Thay are primarily to be used with an iFi Micro iDSD, but also with a Beresford Caiman.

Regards

Darren

I have some Sennheiser Momentum, which sound excellent. They were reduced on the sennheiser website to £200. Worth a try. They were a great step up from the HD25s I was using previously.

Would they be a good match for a Meridian Explorer?

Phillips Fidelio X1s

Hi

Are they mint, or do they have signs of wear. Also, would they be a good match for a Meridian Explorer?

They are low impedance 30 ohm and high sensitivity, so are an easy load for most amps. Condition is very good, pm me your email address and I can email some close up photos tonight?
