Wanted: Magnepan MG20 or MG20.1 Speakers

It might be a bit of a longshot, but was wondering if anyone had a pair of either of these? Cosmetics not too important as long as in good working condition.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. Thanks for the info on the Soundlabs. Those look v nice, but you really need a huge room for them and I don't have that kind of space. The Maggies are less demanding room wise (a bigger room is better but they can work Ok in a medium room). If anyone knows of a set of MG20 or MG20.1s for sale please let me know. They seem to be quite rare in the UK.

Thanks for the info, but I'm not after a hybrid design. I want the fullest range planar possible for sensible size and the Magnepan MG20 series has bass flat to 25 Hz which is better than most other planars, - even a lot of full range stats. The Maggies are not quite as real sounding as stats but more extended at both ends (unlike most other tweeters the ribbon gives proper treble extension flat through 20 Khz up to 40 Khz).

Bump Still looking. Having no luck at all and I've been looking for quite a long time. I could possibly buy from Europe instead but don't want to risk shipping damage.

I'm beginning to think there probably were no MG20 or MG20.1s ever sold in the UK.

There's some Apogees on eBay that will be considerably better than some 20.1s.

Thanks for the info. You mean the Duettas? I'm not that keen on the two way Apogees. The heavy tweeter foil has to work quite low, and the sound is a bit metallic IMO. The Magnepan ribbon tweeter is different as it's thinner, has damping and itsounds a bit less dynamic but more refined in my opinion, and I prefer that. Apogees have way better build in general though. Magnepans are quite flexy but Apogees are as stiff as a rock!

The ones on the bay have KLM5 ribbons. Not the older KLM2 which could indeed sound metallic, especially on rock guitar. I've never heard the original Apogeee ribbons.

They will crush any Maggie I have heard for bass performance and dynamics. Mid range has greater definition and clarity too.

It's a fully restored beyond original spec pair. They aren't normal. Really:)

I have no doubt the Apogees sound more dynamic but like I said yesterday I'm not looking for a pair of Apogees. From what I have experienced from both brands in the past I personally prefer the Magnepan sound by a long way, and I also know how to repair Magnepans myself. Restored a set of a Tympani IVas in the past but had to sell on as they were too big for my room. I've Set my heart on a pair if 20 s or 20.1s hopefully I'll find a pair.

Thanks for pointing the Apogges out though
