View Full Version : Reel to Reel Question
I've just bought a new toy.....Teac 3440.
The machine has 4 RCA inputs and 4 RCA outputs.
How do I convert the 4 RCA outputs to 2 RCA inputs for my amp?
Solution would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Great Reel 2 Reel its a 4 track so you can record on 4 individual channels in one direction or channels 1&3 in one ddirection and 2&4 in the other direction, great for musicians
If you want to use it like a 2 track machine you can buy Y piece splitters for input and output or get a mixing panel

Hi John,
You don't need or want to combine the tracks if you are listening to old pre recorded tapes as most releases were on 1/4 track, with music recorded in both directions. If you were to use a combiner, you would hear both the forward and the backward track mixed together. Use tracks 1 and 3 and 1 will normally be the left channel and 2 the right. What you have is not a domestic machine it's a small studio multi track, great machine by the way. If you have a 1/2 track master 1 and 3 will still give you stereo playback, though both tracks will output 3dB less than the full width tape, this is not a problem. Hope you enjoy the Teac, I always like their kit.

Thanks Paul, it seems to work well if I use tracks 1 and 4.
It's far too well specified for what I need but it looks sounds great and looks brilliant.
Cheers
