Hi people.

A new member invited by one of your moderators.

I'm Keith, I'm 59, live in the north midlands UK. I am semi retired. I fix PC's for a living but often my hobby pays better. I have a passion for reel to reel tape recorders. I have been restoring them for around 10 years.

I started young. At the age of 8 (I think) my Pa had borrowed a tape recorder. He recorded with a microphone up against the radiogram speaker. I asked him if there was a way of recording direct. Cuz the sound was crap.

Fast forward 50 years... My system includes:
In my listening room (my study), I use the following:
Revox B250 amp, Revox B60 Tuner, Revox B225 CD, Technics PD867 (Carousel) CD, TEac T-H300 DAB Tuner, Teac MD-H300 Mini Disc, Sony SB-500 Switch, Technics RS1500US Reel Deck and a pair of old Celestion Ditton 15XRs.

In my Workshop/Den I usually use an Aiwa 1980's system, the silver one reviewed in a mag last year, to test my stuff with.#

I use a Carver amp, Sony ES Tuner, Revox B226 CD, Revox BX-350 Speakers to demo the finished restored recorders.

I have display mint Revox B77 MkII's, Teac X1000R, Technics RS1500 and other reel machines..

I have loads of stuff I am working on including an original Transcriptor Hydraulic Reference Turntable . Plus much other Revox stuff.

Some of you people might find me a maverick in my thoughts, so if I get out of line tell me.

My other hobby is drumming. I was a drummer from 1963 to around 1977. I also played a little guitar, (Actually a big one). And I sang for mmany of my drumming years. I have also been slightly involved in studio recording.

So I guess you could say I have some experience in making a row, recording it and breaking the record after listening to it.

I have had a browse through your boards. It is great stuff.

Thanks for reading.

Best regards....Keith.

Hi Keith,
Welcome from me also - hope your stay is a long enjoyable and interesting one - your CV certainly sounds as if it could be interesting for us. I particularly like the following line: -

Some of you people might find me a maverick in my thoughts, so if I get out of line tell me.

I like the sound of that - I enjoy gently ruffling a few feathers and the membership here prides itself on being more friendly than most so you may have a freer hand than you might expect, but no doubt you will be given the opportunity to take it as well as give it - all done with a smile of course ;) .
Enjoy.

Welcome to AoS. You'll be fine as long as you don't slag off Technics turntables, Denon cartridges, or Tannoy speakers.

Welcome, Keith, as a fellow reel to reel fan I'm hoping you'll want to share some of your knowledge on the subject! The RS1500 is a beautiful looking deck and not one I've yet heard in the flesh...

Welcome Keith, great first post, I think you will enjoy your time here. I'm only a very new member myself, having lots of fun, and learning a great deal. I was wondering if you were a famous drummer... I could only think of one drummer called Keith - but he stopped drumming the year after you, and rather permanently!
