Do you guys remove the dust covers/lids or leave them in the upright position if hinged when playing a record ? I must admit when I had turntables years ago I always put the dustcover/lid down when playing a record.
It may vary with some TT's but with my Technics 1210, I most definitely remove the lid totally when playing. I've tried tapping the open (attached) lid and the feedback through to the speakers was surprisingly pronounced. I suspect that the lid can catch a lot of energy from the room and feed it into the plinth. My setup certainly sounds cleaner playing with the lid off though it probably varies somewhat depending on sound levels and relative TT/speaker positioning,

Only use it as a dust cover.
Always off when playing.
<thinks> Don't think I have a choice now as the FR would foul the lid
although I dont always do it, the lid is best totally removed as, as Lynton says it becomes a giant antenna. Think they could be called acoustic mirrors.

It's a dust cover. Remove when playing.
Yes - do not use the dust cover when playing a record. There is no need to remove it - just leave it up.

I heard somewhere they should be removed for the best sound quality.
I didn't with my LP12 as the hinges didn't encourage constant swapping
No choice with the Tech as I have no hinges !

I just leave the lid up. It's one of the only times I can get away with it in our house :)
Lid up would actually be my least favoured option - I would recommend taking it off completely when listening (unless at very low level or through headphones).

Always with the lid off.
Remove it.
