This section of AoS states the following:::: "All "cable"/equipment support discussion. Also mains accessories or anything which relates to the 'infrastructure' of your audio system. Info on tubes and headphones (inc. headphone amps and systems) should also be discussed here"

So come on then.... who is ACTUALLY using the SLIC Interconnect cable ??

I am surely not the ONLY one on here using them...

I'm just trying to get a feel for how many are actually using this rather special cable???

Have you any pics of the Slic cable Bev?
Could you take one of a closeup of the plug?

Ninanina

Hiya Gary
Are these 'sexy' enough pics for you.... ???

If you want any further pics of the SLIC cable let me know exactly what you want ... no problem....

Thanks Bev.
not sure about the sexy part...lol

Ninanina

And I HOPE this shows the width of the SLIC ....

It's about 1cm thick... like a big snakey... !!

Ninanina
13-08-2014, 23:08
No worries Gary

Are you thinking about trying a set ??

You have NOTHING to loose as they are on a 30 day money back thingy ..... to be honest it took me all of the 30 day's to decide but once you get used to their amazingly natural presentation absolutely NOTHING comes close and believe me I have had £1000's worth of cable in my system before, which included AN's BEST silver cable....

HOWEVER I think you cannot beat the SLIC at anything near the price..

Do I think that the SLIC is expensive???? well, of course I do.. it's crazy money for a bit of wire.... but WHAT a piece of wire it is....very superb indeed....

If you try a set and are not completely sold on them just blame it on me... if that helps....

Mark doesn't that happen ALL the time with new equipment though? not just cables.. I have tried other equipment in my system but decided that what I already have beats the newcomer

Quite normal isn't it ??

That does not mean that the newcomer is worse than what you already have it just means that it was not suitable for the system .....simples... !!

I've heard a system or two with 'em in, but I can't comment on what the cables do within those systems, because the systems were not mine.
And I'm not going as far as trying one in my system - for me the cable cost rules it out.
I've got mains flex in the boot of my car that works better as speaker cable than some very expensive stuff in certain applications, and no, I'm not naming and shaming the expensive stuff! I'm sure it makes sense in other setups. It helps if you do not consider the price of an item as an indication of its ability.

Context is everything.

I'd rather talk about which cable I use to connect my guitar to my amp (actually I'd rather not - you think audiophiles are picky, just try delving into the wacky world of getting "my sound" that some guitar playing individuals inhabit - obsessive isn't in it!) ;)

Well people chop and change for sure - but whether they do it quite so quickly, or dramatically, is another matter - particularly after praising it initially.

However, my point wasn't actually aimed at the cable as such, it was more about the 'hype' that has been associated with it.

Marco
16-08-2014, 08:29
Extremely off-putting hype as well, I would hasten to add. In my experience, genuinely good products, not simply ‘flavours of the month’, largely sell themselves (through word of mouth from enthusiasts), and crucially, stand the test of time! ;)

Perhaps Bev should realise that so many of us 'oldies' on AOS just don't pay this kind of high-profit money for new items. Rave about it all you like, but I'll stick to Klotz, Van Damme, the still excellent Mark Grant HD1000 (the stock one in danger of being forgotten), SC and SSC myself, as listened to on their own (and with loads of hours on the Klotz being mandatory), I don't personally feel there's anything missing.

In this kind of situation I don't think it does relate to system matching. Initially Martin was very enthusiastic about the cable when used in his system - it's human nature to be excited by the new. However, on reflection, he appears to have decided that he had been overly enthusiastic and that the old was actually better than the new. Rather than suggesting a lack of system synergy this would indicate that the SLIC was not as good as he had at first suggested.....simples......(as you say).

Not forgotten here Dave, I have G1000HD in my office system (+ a spare), Rega Klotz in the main and Van Damme speaker cables all round (wouldn't buy anything else), leaving me spare cash to buy music with and I think my sanity intact, but that's questionable to be honest :D

How about a Devialet report . . . not here as it's Bev's thread, but maybe another one or a PM?

Having just changed from a speaker cable at £260/m to one at £17.30/m, now consider myself a member of the ripped off brigade. SLIC was just one foo too far, and I agree that the marketing blurb would put off all but the most gullible.

Consider yerself still ripped off - decent quality copper mains flex is still only about 30p/metre :eyebrows:

In the interests of fairness it has to be pointed out that you can trial this cable in your system if you are happy to put the money down. No like you can send it back for a full refund. It is difficult to describe that as a rip off. I have not tried it because it is more money than I am prepared to spend on an interconnect. In the context of what I paid for the rest of my kit it would make no sense. Especially as I would need two, plus ideally another for the phono stage. If it was, say, a ton a go I might be tempted as if I was impressed with what it did in my system I could justify that level of expense.

Well why is it that the following headings in this very section are all ok? as follows:

VFM/SPPV studio cables test - which has 107 pages of comments
MS Audio / Klotz MC5000 interconnects build offer - which has 16 pages of comments
I Try the Kloztz AC 110 interconnects - which has 4 pages of comments
Van Damme Silver Series Interconnect - which has 19 pages of comments

BUT as SOON as the SLIC gets a mention it's ALWAYS pounced on, and rubbished, is it purely because of the cost of the cable? I have no idea otherwise

If it is purely because of price then I think that is very short sighted, otherwise we would all be using old A & R A60 amps and the like... things move on people...

Point tAken, but my £260/m cable was not SLIC, some other "top" brand. The only cable I've heard that was really special was multi-core silver speaker cable, but it cost about £1500/m.

Apologies, didn't mean to offend anyone, just another bod with cable fatigue. A pal has just bought TQ Black Diamond speaker cables and loves them. Good luck to him, and Geoff and Col who make them. The main point is that cables are it sees heavily system dependent.

The difference is, Bev, there are many more users here of “cheap studio cables” than Slic, therefore the number of threads discussing such cables is justifiable, whereas threads such as this, where you’re largely talking to yourself, in the hope of generating some publicity for Slic, are, erm, not quite so justifiable…. ;)

A fair point as there is rather a lot . . . . however, one of the aims of AoS is to promote value and the best SPPV upgrades with bargain tweaks and tips for the masses and ordinary music/audio lover, which with respect is not what a SLIC cable is, so folk are going to talk about what interests them. I don't think even you would admit that £500 is the best sound per pound value around for a cable?

But hey work away, whatever floats your boat - just not many people around here with the same mindset that's all and you should have worked out by now how controversial 'any' cable thread is.

Spot on, Tim, especially the bit in bold! :)

Furthermore, some of us here with rather costly systems are using “cheap studio cables”, not because we can’t afford to buy more expensive ones, but rather that they sonically outperform cables we’ve used in the past that cost a damn sight more than Slic….. ;)

Yes, when you know full well (or at least you should do, being a regular contributor) that hardly anyone here does. Indeed, other than you, I can’t think off-hand of anyone else who uses Slic.

I have no idea what you are frightened of regarding the SLIC, maybe it is due to the supplier or maybe it's something else but PLEASE don't rake me into that sort of thing... thanks...

I can see for myself thanks Marco that no-one has replied... do you think I am retarded or something.??

And for the record I ACTUALLY tried one of your recommended cables, the Gotham, and found it totally c**p, but that's the difference I was prepared to try someone elses 'rave' product..

But some people are obviously not prepared to do the same, even though there is no risk money wise as my SLIC was on a 30 day return

Just looking at this thread it doesn't read so much like an advertorial than someone who has spent a lot of money on something and is looking for some reinforcement to justify the investment.

For the record I am a pretty intelligent person and I don't need to go looking for reinforcement of spending my own money, thank goodness, I am completely free of justifying my purchases (whatever they are!!) to anyone else, and that's just the way I keep things
