Recumbent Bike / Trike

Anyone here ride a recumbent bike or trike ??

I tried one a few years ago and it was great fun

I have a decent Kona mountain bike but the comfort of a recumbent really can't be beaten...

Used to have bikes; loved to cycle when young and went day trips of 60 odd miles at a time and stay at a youth hostel then either on to next one or back next day. Dunno if the youth hostel system is still healthy now but it was a boon for us nutters back in the day. did get a mountain bike about 8 years ago and used it a lot as we had excellent bicycle paths that went everywhere as it was old train system that was no longer used. could go for miles in the country and it was all safe and no great hills.
Alas since my hip went kaput I sold it as it was going to rot away. Never tried a recumbent but they do look fun.

Well actually Bev, I've still got a folding aluminium bike for occasional use. I cycled to work (and elsewhere) for years. Packed up about three years before I took my early retirement five years ago.

I think the recumbent way is so right in so many ways.... maybe they cannot climb hills in quite the same way as upright bikes but I think as you age the recumbent way is so much more comfortable...

AND it saves any 'undercarriage' discomfort..... for those that suffer that way...!! :eek::eek:

A warning. There is a lunatic in Plymouth who rides a recumbent bike. He has no flag sticking up on a whip aerial, so is almost invisible. He rides up between lines of cars and changes lanes at the lights. I have nearly knocked him off more than once, and when I didn't move over for him he became abusive. Bikes in general are vulnerable, but these things are even more so, especially if no effort is made to be visible.
And don't get me started on bike trailers full of little kids!

Which model Kona do you own Bev? Owned a Scrap myself but had to sell it due to my back issues, not sure which hurt more... :(

I was an avid cyclist in my teens, it took me across Europe in my 20s never tried a recumbent though, looks fun

Recumbent bikes just look so wrong to me and far more effort than an upright. I accept that for some there may be no alternative, but I could never use one. I am a keen cyclist and have been for years. I think that I would have gone even madder than I am now if I had not been able to get out in the fresh air and bust my lungs, legs and bum for a few hours regularly:eek::D
