View Full Version : Musical ears, anyone?
By way of irrelevant background, to mates who don't share the addiction I'm a 'sound nerd'. I love it! My dear departed Mum was a professional pianist who neglected to pass on any actual performance gifts but - by way of compensation - kindly left me a great musical ear (two, actually). These have been applied, over many years, to radio and audio production and being as picky as my budget allows with hi-fi. Sadly I can't run to the £16k Linn speakers a nice man in Nottingham recently demonstrated to me!! MA Silver RS6 and Arcam Solo Neo, a couple of decent pairs of Senn cans and Squeezebox Duet streaming FLACs from a NAS keep me happy for now...

Hello Malc and welcome to this wonderful community of AoS. I think one of the best things anyone can have, is the great musical ear (or ears). As a musician of over 11 years, with professional level training in all things music (from theory and history to actually learning instruments), I've discovered the best thing any one can have is a pair of musical ears. Without such, I believe a musician will only possess technical skills and lack the soul and ability to create without boundaries. So I applaud and encourage you to maintain that musical ear by all means, and maybe one day pickup an instrument for further nourishment. We all start somewhere; in my case it was just picking up a guitar with an incredible passion for rock and metal music. So you never know where those ears will take you. ;)
To comment on your setup, it sounds like it reproduces music wonderfully! May I ask what Sennheiser headphones you use?
Cheers,
Chris
Welcome to AoS Malc.
Unfortunately, the only thing I play is my audio system; though as a child I used to play on the linoleum.
What are your tastes in music?
