Skim to the bottom where Noel attempts to define the dynamic range of the cartridge as being 110db.

It's sad to see a supposedly technical savvy guy like Noel attempt to define the effective dynamic range of a cartridge as the difference between it's greatest output level and the Johnson noise of the coils. It's utterly misleading as the lower noise figure is impossible to obtain. At the very least the lowest output of the cart is the combination of its own Johnson noise, the Johnson noise attributed to the parallel resistive loading in the phonostage, the noise of the amplification in the phonostage, the rumble from the turntable and the vinyl tracing noise. Let's be generous and say 60db.

But in this instance even that figure isn't close to what you'll hear out of the speakers because the number he fails to give when trying to sell you how dynamic and quiet these new mono pressings are is the only one that really counts- the dynamic range of the recording itself. Would anyone like to take a guess at what this really is, 60db, 40db, 20db even less? Yeh they have quiet run in but that makes no difference if the noise during each track sets the baseline.

Yes, that's cobblers. How can the dynamic range of a transducer be quoted as being between peak modulation and the thermal noise floor, rather then when it is actually being used as a transducer?. Isn't that a little like saying that the noise floor of my preamp is very low when it is muted? . A very strange set of statements.

Wishful thinking. You'll notice how he suggests that the cartridge has a higher dynamic range than CD. NK has always had in for digital going back 30 years. Remember the 30% THD shocker? That was slighty economical with the facts, too.

I'd guess a max of 10dB of dynamic range on those Beatle recordings. It was 1963 after all. Is there a prize for whoever gets closest? ;)
