Someone must have a great deal of musical experience with her music so how would you describe her sound...? I am looking at buying some on vinyl but so far I am not familiar with her and I can't find any free MP3 snippets to download and listen to.

C'mon Shaun, haven't you heard of Spotify?
I've just had a look on it and there's quite a bit of her stuff to listen to.

Cheers Gents, I've heard of Spotify but have no idea what it does. 100% analogue here most of the time.

And it would appear that you have to subscribe at a cost which I have no intention of doing

Unfortunately for Amazon there are no MP3 snippets to listen to for free so I won't be buying any but Amazon is where I would have been buying it from. I don't know why they have no short pieces to listen to as they do for most other artists.

You don't have to subscribe to Spotify to be able to use it. You don't pay anything for the basic version - which is the version I use.

I have just had a look, and there are about 50 Anna Calvi tracks one can listen to.

I have a free account with Spotify - you get the occasional interruption from an advert, but other than that it's gratis.

Shedloads of Anna Calvi on U-tube. You don't have to go through the hassle of creating an account like with Spotify and the SQ is just as crap:

Saw Anna Calvi live a couple of years ago... she is very good.... However the supporting group at the time was Grouplove and they are the best..... you HAVE to listen to "Colours" and other tracks by Grouplove.... to be fair after Grouplove had done their bit Anna Calvi had a VERY TOUGH act to follow.... :)

Anna Calvi - Good Track, on Jools:

You MUST see Grouplove live..... they are superb musicians however it's quite a young crowd when you see them, I was probably the oldest in there!!, but go with it they are truly superb live.... Last time a saw Grouplove live was in Brighton and even the floor was jumping in time...!! truly superb stuff.. !!

Some music is for serious listening to and some is just there to enjoy for what it is.... Anna Calvi and Grouplove fall into the latter.... and great because of it...

so how would you describe her sound...?
as a mixture between a young Patti Smith who actually knows how to play electric guitar and some half Italian, half British version of Lana Del Rey on speed, struggling with serious bipolar disorder, disappointment and desire. Powerful, impressive, passionate. Some sort of meta-soundtrack to movies from David Lynch.

I own both her albums and like her work a lot, but it’s certainly not the kind of music which can be listened and enjoyed effortlessly. Prepare for a rough ride.

Werner.

I'd say that was a pretty good summation Werner ;)
