I didn't know him, but it's always sad to hear of a key figure in the industry passing away.

R.I.P.

This is so sad, it is a tragedy for his family, friends, colleagues and the audio community as a whole. Along with Harry Pearson(still alive) these two men transformed the way audio is listened to and reviewed, as did John Crabbe on this side of the Atlantic who also sadly died recently( Link to recent interview with John Crabbe also from Stereophile (http://www.stereophile.com/interviews/john_crabbe_firebrand/). Those who founded the modern audio press are very important in regards to their individual and collective contributions to the pursuit of the finest writing about the reproduction of music and the products/systems that are used and in establishing a methodology for doing so. The subjective approach grew out of these mens work.

I for one am very sad indeed at this news :( A true giant has passed on. I wish to pass on my condolences to his family friends and colleagues. God bless you all.

As a tribute to JGH here below is the 1997 interview that Steven Stone did with JGH...well worth reading IMHO.

As further tribute to JGH I have altered my Avatar to the cover of a book he wrote on audio, a number of years ago. Book details "TITLE: Music and Electronics (Prepared with the cooperation of Science Service)
AUTHOR: J. Gordon Holt (Nelson Doubleday, Inc. Garden City, NY ©1961)
ILLUSTRATIONS: Frank Lacano"

I'm not getting the picture, Neil - just a red cross in a white box... Maybe you have to be a member of 'Enjoy the Music.com' to see it?

Perhaps you could host it on Photobucket instead or something? :)

Marco.
