I have for (possible) sale a new and unused Nagaoka MP500 MM cartridge, some say possibly one of the very best MM carts available today.

I'm not sure my time spent listening to vinyl and my Rega deck warrant such a wonderful cart.

RRP in the UK is £630 would accept £450 delivered if there is interest before i mount it and use it??

PM me if interested.

This is a phenomenal sounding cartridge, folks - one of the best available today at any price (I kid you not), so someone's in for a treat! To all intents and purposes it sounds like a top-notch moving coil cartridge, and nothing like MMs normally do.

Good luck with the sale, Steve

Marco.

P.S I tidied up the links in your pics for you.

No worries, you're welcome.

In all seriousness, are you quite sure of what you're getting rid of? ;)

If so, you're going to be giving someone an amazing bargain, as I've heard the MP-500 giving £1k moving-coil cartridges a hard time!!

Get it plugged in to the MM input and then report what you find.......

A lovely cart for sure with an absolutely magical midrange performance - the latest incarnation of the MP-50 which I owned and enjoyed very much.

The MP-500 is 1g lighter and slightly higher output than the MP-50, supposedly so it mates better with a wider range of modern tonearms … Damping has been altered too. Same boron cantilever and line contact stylus.

Also I read that Nagaoka say that the old series bodies were made from mouldings, where as the new ones are hand-made and polished by hand ...

Stop it, please before I change my mind.

You should... Honestly, you're daft selling it (unless you really need the cash). Trust me, one listen to it and you'll be hooked!

:exactly:

If I hadn't just bought a pair of mono blocks, this would not be for sale anymore.
You're crazy selling it!

What cartridge are you using now?

Yes Marco, its what the scots call a dreich day here in Dunblane today and that lovely looking box got the better of me.

Initially, a little underwhelmed to be honest. Not sure what i was expecting the second i dropped the neddle on the record but i never heard it.

Some 90mins later its opening up quite nicely, infact as i type this i keep having to look up as something catches my ear, so, at the min I'm enjoying it but i think (hope) there is plenty to come from it.

When you had one, what did you track it at? The info says 1.3g - 1.8g, I'm at 1.5g and think a little soon to be messing!!

Hi Scott,

I know all about dreich - I lived in Glasgow for about 30 years! :eyebrows:

Dunblane is a nice place. Are you a friend of Andy Murray? ;)

Anyway, try tracking it nearer the top end of the range, say, 1.6 - 1.65g, with anti-skate set at 1.5. Which phono stage are you using, and are you able to get VTA spot on with your Rega arm (I know that getting the right sized spacer can be a ball-ache).

No, although my kids have played Tennis with his mum and brother here at the Tennis club, despite how the media portray her, she is a lovely lady.:)

I'll tweek it up a little:). I have a upped the VTA by 2mm and the arm looks pretty much parallel.

Cool... Try also adjusting VTF. Cartridges usually sound better towards the upper end of their tracking force range :)
