Hi,
To put it mildly I am electronically challenged and have soldering skills to match so any actions that may result from this appeal will be carried out commercially by someone who has done similar jobs for me.
I have a much modified SL1210 MkII. It has an exterior Paul Haynes power supply, pure silver single piece tonearm cable from headshell to phono amp and many mods done to the mechanics that are my own 'take' on what others have done to theirs. The only thing I see myself changing in the foreseeable future with regards to the mechanics of the TT is the possibility of fitting a new cartridge but probably only when my ears begin to suggest that one is getting necessary.
So I am now thinking about the electronics/PCB side of the equation. I am not sure how old the 1210 is but it was bought second hand from an ex-DJ and had one foot swinging free so I suspect it may have done many hours duty. Part of my satisfaction was in taking this and putting it back in a condition where it now plays music in a very enjoyable manner but there is not much more that I can do in that area to maybe improve things further. Hence the thoughts about the PCB.
Has anyone any practical experience, rather than thoughts about the theory, of changing things on the PCB that they are willing to tell me about? I have heard opposing opinions about the benefits of changing caps which may have deteriorated through age - are there benefits to be heard from doing this or indeed making other changes to the PCB?
Anyone got anything to say on this one?
