Hi People

Is it possible 2 run 2 computers from one broadband line ?

I have a Apple imac and want 2 use my windows PC for tape editing and need 2 download onto the PC via the internet

Can this be done ?

Are you talking about wireless or wired connection? I use a laptop and my wife uses her iPad at the same time (both wirelessly) it can mean that things run a bit slow if she's watching iPlayer and I'm listening to Spotify, but that's rural broadband for you :)

Should be straightforward Al. Both devices can share a network. Probably you can just plug both into the back of your router, if it has enough spare sockets, or connect both via a wireless dongle to a wireless network if you have one, or add a gigabit hub (buttons off ebay) at the desk where the machines are, if the 2 machines are close together and a fair distance from the router.

But not difficult :cool:

Not exactly related, but I can't get USB wireless WiFi dongles to install at the moment. I've tried three so far and the software from the accompanying disc installs OK but the when I plug the dongles into USB sockets, I just get a message saying drivers failed to install. Windows is no help as it can't find drivers.

I suppose that you've tried deleting the device in device manager and re-booting. What operating system?

Yes, done that and just downloaded the matching driver from CNet. No joy. It's W7.

I can see some extra slots so as Richard suggested it looks like I could just plug it in

Sure can. Your receiving item (call it a modem, router, whatever) can have more than one output. It it only has one output (or say two and you need five) then you can purchase Switch or a Router that has multiple outputs. You will need to have sufficient Ethernet cables to connect. It is generally plug and play and I have not had to set up anything for over 10 years. We have had up to six simultaneous connections playing games like Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Call of Duty etc without any apparent loss of speed.
