In a previous life I used to be quite an enthusiastic online gamer, playing such titles as Funcom's Anarchy Online, Blizzard's World Of Warcraft and last but not least, Lord Of the Rings Online from Turbine. A drastic reduction in income and added responsibilities meant all that dropped by the wayside and then I rediscovered my love of music and interest in hifi equipment and the rest is history.
Around a month ago however a mate recommended an interesting simulator and I've been hooked ever since. The simulator in question is EuroTruck 2 from SCS software and to put it concisely, it is a truck simulator. in it you get the chance to drive various tractor units (which can be upgraded and customised) from different manufacturers hauling a plethora of goods right across the UK and Europe. To begin with you start by working for other people driving their trucks, but as you gain experience, and more importantly, cash, you reach a point where you will be able to afford to buy your own vehicle. This is where it gets really interesting because after a while you can expand your business and buy depots in the various cities you will discover along the way. Of course, with more depots come more trucks, and people to drive them. Yup, once you reach a certain level you end up with a business you have to manage. I find it involving, utterly addictive and a great deal of fun. I'm also pretty good at it and currently own depots in Sheffield, London, Cardiff, Paris, Geneva, Prague, Rotterdam and Milan and my virtual profits run out at around £1.5m per week. I forget how many employees I have now but it's a fair few.
