My son is after a pair, preferably M Audio, but not essential.

He's looking at spending less than £100.

Anyone got any, or suggest where some can be bought at a good price?

Cheers Chris.......except these seem to have a 'doctored ' frequency response, going against what an actual studio monitor is all about, ie no peaks or troughs in its FR. Unless I'm misreading about its highs and lows.......?

I'll rephrase that....'Punchy high end'

The stuff I linked to fulfills the criteria you originally posted Craig - it's by M Audio and it's under a ton!
I wouldn't be getting sniffy just because the link is for Tesco, and I wouldn't be basing any ideas I had about them because of a "review", or because of some marketing prose.

If you look for yourself you'll see that the monitors in question are stocked by PMT (http://www.pmtonline.co.uk/), Andertons (http://www.andertons.co.uk/), Thomann
(http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html) and quite a few other noted and serious suppliers.

You can probably find the monitors locally too, so you can get chance to hear 'em first.
Just go looking for 'em in a large reputable musical instrument shop that sells recording gear.

I've had a bit of play time today, so I went into PMT to try a few things out.
First off was a Fender Blues Junior guitar amplifier - having tried one I have to have one.
Secondly I tried the M-Audio AV40 monitors. For not a lot of money you get a lot of speaker - they sound great! OK, they're not deafeningly loud, so party entertainment system is not a role they'll fill, but they are a very capable performer when kept within their performance envelope.

I was very tempted to come home with the AV40s to be honest, but I managed to resist - I need to have a Fender Blues Junior, whereas I don't need another pair of stereo speakers at the moment.

Thanks Chris, seems my son has set his sights on one of the speakers a bit higher up the range, bi amped as well.

he only wants to use them to monitor mix downs etc, so ear splitters are not necessary.
