[It Cost How Much!?!]

A few of you may know me from another forum. I joined yonks ago, but didn't really partake, so I thought I would re-introduce myself.

My name is Bob and I collect interesting kit and listen to rock, techno, indie and anything interesting.

Based in sunny Cheshire (good side).

Currently favouring Quad ESL989, Primare 928, ARC SP14, Transrotor Fat Bob/Koetsu, Esoteric/Audio Synthesis system. But, I have loads of old stuff, 34 year box swapper and 40 year music collector and appreciator.

NE Cheshire is the good bit. I live in Alderley Edge.

It's a bit of a in joke with some of the guys on other forums about West Cheshire.

I know Alderley Edge, lovely piece of the world.

So happens I had a listen to some ESL989 just recently. Not exactly optimally set up but even so they were pretty impressive. Not that expensive s/h either.

Even you might need ear plugs, Marco, when Bob puts the pedal to the metal. :eyebrows:

My innards are still vibrating from a sesh with my MBLs several years ago when Bob brought a vintage Perreaux amp round to mine. :eek: You may recall that I mentioned that visit last Sunday, Marco, and the awesome slam of that amp. :)

Good to see you on here Bob. I noticed you managed to get a listen to the old L90's... How did you find them compared to your L112 ?

I have taken the L112's over to Geoff's (Oldius) and it was horses for courses, Geoff preferred the L90 and me the L112. Geoff thought that the L112's were a little bright, you can turn the treble down (which I left at -1), me I thought the L112's were faster and more dynamic, with more vibe/foot tapping to the music. The L112's grabbed your attention more. Remarkable speakers either of them if you drive them with non-PA amps and put them one heavy solid stands.

Either are very different to my Quad 989's.

The amp I took to Jerry's was a Perreaux 2150b (200W per channel) Mosfet, then just recently restored, now sold some time ago.

I did see it, the only amps of big power I have at the moment are Krell KAS-2 (160W per channel pure class A mono's, about 168lbs each). Not exactly portable! In my experience Tannoy's like 50W + with an amp of some grip to try and get the flappy bottom end a little bit less flappy, especially Golds. The amps I currently have are the Krell's, Primare 928 mono's, Beard P100 (90W KT88 PP) about to be borrowed by a mate, Musical Fidelity P170, Audion KT120, Trilogy VTi and another valve integrated PrimaLuna One. It's a fluid mix.

I should add I am not a Tannoy fan, which you may have summised.

Sure, but you've missed the point... It was simply to have a listening sesh - you know, chill out, listen to some choons, maybe eat some nice food, etc? I wasn't planning any major system upheaval (or you to bring any kit, least of all huge power amps)! ;)
