i recently bid on and won a pair of b+w 601 s2 speakers from that there bay, described as unused and mint. now i was sceptical as to the unused bit but thought if theyre mint i wont care.out of the box they had obvious signs of use and were definitely not mint:doh: the bases had residue in each corner ,probably something to secure them to a stand, various marks on cabinates though these could only be seen from certain angles and the veneer was begining to come away on one speaker, there was even mould near the binding posts:hmm:the seller couldnt believe i wasnt happy but they did refund me without fuss.thing is, theyre back up in auction 'unused' 'mint' 'only unboxed for theses pics' etc .grab yourself a bargain, AHEM:rolleyes:

eBay's full of 'em... Unfortunately.

I have discovered there is a direct correlation between the value of item being sold & the more hassle you're in for... Basically, the cheaper it is the more :wanker: it attracts ! Its the "car boot sale mentality" - List something of low value & you will receive dozens of lowball offers from muppets who complain like #*%! when they either: Didn't look at the pictures / read the description / engage their brain or are on the scam. I'm yet to have a problem during a deal for a high value item... Go figure.

Sorry, that wasn't really relevant to your OP of deceptive sellers that are "economical with the truth." - Thankfully its been my experience they are far fewer in number than fraudulent / problem buyers.

I have to agree with some of the negative ebay posts here.
a love of vintage gear has bit me on the ass a couple of times when on the bay in the past.
a pair of rogers LS 4s virtually thrown at me from the front door of a house in derby a couple of years past....won em for 20 quid. I had a laugh though, went back to my car and changed my crisp 20 for a tenner and all the silver and coppers knocking about in the doors, glovebox, holders etc......went back to the house and threw it into his hallway.
I think I heard F**KING C**T shouted after me as I drove off with a smile!!!!

I would agree about the high value stuff being less of a problem.
In my experience , it has got a lot worse since the advent of high tech phones and joe bloggs having a pc . Whereas 10 yrs ago there was a predominence of really nice people with a brain having a pc ,and using that to sell really good stuff or even poorer articles with honesty, now its more about just getting rid of any thing , however many can , and its full of pitfalls.
Or as has been said , trying to scam or con you out of your stuff or buggering you about when they have (or say they havent) got!
I am not the best with writing to folk ,but usually you can get an idea of what people are like by what they reply with questions with, but only up to a point.
At the end of the day , I always think of my old mate , who always puts his failing or slightly problematical electrical goods into a hall sale or car boot . Its what many do on the bay .
