OK so time has come to revitalize my system with an upgrade to the oldest piece in the stack.

I currently drive the PMC FB1s with a Rotel RB-990BX single power amp via Naim NAC A5 cable. The amp is 225WPC and maybe a little overpowered for the FB1s.

Any advise on how I could best amplify these monitors?

The amp isn't 'overpowered', that's what the volume control is for.

Is there any other reason for you considering a change ?

I also wanted to canvas for opinion from the experts on this site :D

There is no such thing as 'overpowered'. 'Underpowered', maybe. A lot of amps are underpowered for the job they have to do. They clip away merrily whilst their owners upgrade perfectly good components trying to fix the 'harsh sound'. And if you tell them the amp is clipping they say it can't be because the volume is only at nine o'clock on the dial....

Thanks Martin,

As a newbie, I'm starting to understand a little more about how best to partner each component...any chance of a short list for test-driving?

If it was my system and I wanted to tinker then I would look at trying a different pre-amp. I used to use a Rotel as a pre-amp and whilst it was okay it turned out to be easily bettered.
