Actually it rains most of the time here in Indian Queens! :(
I'm Alan, 53 and still have my Sony PS-6750 turntable with Ortofon VMS20E MKII cartridge which I bought in about 1977 for £240, when I was an electronics apprentice. It is now connected to my modest system, comprising a Trichord Dino Phono Stage, Arcam A90 Amplifier and Monitor Audio Silver S6 Speakers, (with a second pair of Monitor Audio Silver S2 speakers in the dining room).
I also have a Vortexbox and Squeezebox Touch feeding a Bushmaster MKII DAC. I have nearly ripped 500 of my CD's to FLAC and am plodding on.
Tuner is a Meridian 504, CD Player Technics SL-PG590, DVD Arcam DVD137
We have a second system in the bedroom comprising a Squeezebox Touch, Temple Audio Bantam Gold Amplifier and Rega RS1 speakers.
I love sound from this amazingly tiny system that wakes me up in the morning. :)
All interconnects Mark Grant G1500's. Speaker cables Van Damme Blue and Chord Carnival Silver Screen.
2 Linear power supplies from MCRU, plus 2 home built linear PSU's
As for music, I listen to a wide range of genres, First records were Pink Floyd, Yes, Supertramp, Mike Oldfield, Crusaders, Jethro Tull, Randy Crawford. This was also the disco era and I have a selection of 12" singles which I still enjoy playing. I have collected a wide range of rock and pop CD's across the decades, including classical / folk / jazz.
Like many, I now kick myself for giving away half of my record collection when I replaced them with CD's. At least what I have left are in near mint condition.
I must have OCD, as all my records and CD's have to be kept neatly in alphabetical order and I have to have music on in the house when at home, I can't stand silence, except when sleeping. Both daughters left home (again)! recently and the TV has not been on for 6 weeks - JUST MUSIC. :D
I regularly buy CD's and the occasional LP from Charity Shops, including 50's and 60's artists.
I have lurked on this forum for a couple of years and some of the above equipment / accessory choices are as a direct result of of the interesting threads I have read, so thank you members for sharing and discussing your experiences and making your recommendations.
My next consideration is changing the living room speakers from floor standers to stand mounts and possibly changing the amplifier.
Enough waffle, time to take the dogs for a walk on the beach near Newquay and watch the sunset into the sea!
