View Full Version : HiFi Wigwam site is down.....expect an influx of strays
Last I looked there was a bit of a spat developing following James's*(Site owner) announcement earlier in the day that a new classifieds section was being rolled out with listings fees for posters ads.
Here's the v-bulletin message currently showing on the Wam. "Taking the night off."

... and the threads about it on both Wigwam and PFM have been locked.
Yes....cant have anyone talking about it can we. It wouldn't be on to allow a fair and democratic discussion of anything not controlled by...errr...controlling interests.

I cant see what all the fuss is about
Its a web site owned by a person who wants to develop it further
If another big internet site makes changes users just pay up and continue using the auction site or walk away
I happily use WW and AOS and will continue doing so , Both Marco / James and the back room staff do a excellent job and are entitled to make changes as and when , Good luck to both of them with future web site development even if it costs us users some hard earned cash :D

Tongue was firmly in cheek with the above comments Al ;)
It's their site, they can do what they like with it, there's no law against charging for anything they want to. They may find that fewer people use the classifieds as a result though given that you can use Ebay and reach a wider audience. The fees might be more but so are your chances of selling for a reasonable sum. It's a commercial call and personal feelings of members don't come into it. Personally, I prefer the more laid back approach of AoS which is thankfully less commercialised.
Just to state that AoS has no plans to charge non-trade members for advertising - and it'll be staying that way :)
Good luck to James, however, in doing what he thinks is right for Wigwam.
Marco.

That is good news and most sensible.
I wish them all the best with it but can't quite see it working [that well] myself... Its all very well wanting to pull a larger wage from it as a business but the very second you charge for a service [regardless of how small the fee] peoples expectations go through the roof & small matters/disagreements/trivialities that were often overlooked or forgiven with the previous "free" system will become a perennial pain in the backside. Policing it will become a full time job, just look at AVForums
Of course this is just my opinion & I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong as I know the amount of hard work James has put into the wam

The natives are revolting on HiFiWigwam, no matter how James tries to calm it down, it just rumbles on and on gaining more pace and the "it's OK don't worry" posts are getting more desperate and personal.
As they say in politics, if they are still talking about it on the front pages in two days time, you are toast.
Me, I am here for a while as I disagree with the new philosophy there.
Hopefully, I can offer something positive on AoS.

Hmm. Just had a look on the 'Wam' (first time in about a year). It's not looking pretty at the moment. Hope they get sorted and settled, it's a decent enough place as a rule.

Nice to see you Bob:)
And you Steve. Nice phono stage you brought to Geoff's.
Cant help feeling that puting a charge on final fee through a third party is asking for trouble and will eventually become unpolicable. Increasing subs etc might have been the way to go. Still its none of my business. Good to hear as expected aos is staying with the high ground. :)
Nice to see Bob over here now

It is a real shame isn't it. There seems to be a lot of real bad feeling over there. They should have asked all who sell stuff to pay the super wammer fee if they needed the cash. £10 a year is now't really. They could have even asked for £20 a year if members wanted to sell. Then those who have paid up, could fill their boots and box swap to their hearts content.

Hi James,
Could you provide a link as to where this "bad feeling" is occurring?
Marco.

The first thread has now disappeared, it had descended into senior members calling each other out with phrases that included "utter wankers" and "fucking troll"
Edit: Found it now but it is closed and only shows the first page: http://www.hifiwigwam.com/showthread.php?108450-new-classifieds-system
Thanks, but I've seen that already. I thought that there might be something new, specifically showing what Geoff meant by "It's not looking pretty at the moment."
Just trying to get a proper handle on what all the kerfuffle is about.
Marco.
They deleted a lot of it as the mods etc were kinda losing the place by initially saying they were interested in subscribers views then when they did not like said views tried to insult then delete comments. Many of which i would say were valid.
I said at time just make everyone who uses the site contribute and everyone that wants to use the classifieds pay more. It got deleted...lol
And you Steve. Nice phono stage you brought to Geoff's.
Yes it matched the Tron!
Do you want one :)

If you are giving them away! It would be interesting against my Hagerman Trumpet & Hagerman Flugalhorn stages with S&B step-ups.

ill sort out a loan one for you , maybe next bakeoff!
Current insult being bandied about on the wam by the owner. And another thread bites the dust.
Paul is right, we should have put together an FAQ, we over estimated the combined intelligence of the membership by some margin.
Way to marginalise your membership ..dear dear. No wonder people are leaving

And there's also a lot of misuse of the word OF, when it should be HAVE. :)

I should of thought of that. :)

Dying men dont need favours.....it was not shit stirring, just factual.
Guys, let's keep the discussion constructive. If the thread starts turning into a Wigwam slagging fest (or a war between representatives of both forums), then it'll be getting binned!
Marco.
sorry Marco..I never slagged anyone off though:)
I know, but with Ian's intervention I'm simply nipping things in the bud before any trouble starts.

It's much easier to stay here on AOS. Even the disagreements are a lot more civilised and it is not commercially driven. It remains debate, music and hifi orientated which is why it is streets ahead of the other forums. kirk out!
