Hi from NZ

As requested I'm posting here first.
My main music love is for classical,pre 1900, with jazz (with a tune),pop,rock,country,and anything else tuneful thrown in.That rules out rap and some electronic noises!
Got interested in "Hi-Fi", when an older man I worked with when I was 20, commented on the small Philips cassette recorder/player I proudly showed him, "that's not Hi-Fi. You need to hear a Quad setup with the big speakers to hear proper music"!
So on one trip to Auckland I found and bought the B&W DM2A's and started from there,decent audio shops being scarce
in my neck of the woods then.But at least there were the magazines,The Absolute Sound being my favourite.
Tend to hang on to my gear and not upgrade unless it's affordable and better.Have modded the odd item.

Welcome to the AOS forum, I'm just down the road in Masterton , have you any interest in Gershwin as he tried and in someways succeeded in bridging both classical and jazz, just ask as both classical and jazz are on your music interests. Even wider still with taking classical on new streets, have you heard Seji Ozawa conducting the San Francisco Orchestra with William Russo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Russo_(musician) A Blues Concerto and Corky Seigel on harmonica, ? here is a link:

Chris, I'm not following you around!Just got here by following one of your links.A little Gershwin I like.

Geoff,the DM2A's were about 40 years ago.Soon traded for DM6's, then I discovered the Celestion SL6, then the SL6S's which I've been using for 30 years,'til last year when I bought Image 412/2's from Chris Ball in NZ.

My system I posted in my profile,I think.Please let me know if you can't see it.

Ah, relatives of the SL600 Si speakers I used to run. They were quite impressive, eventually sold to fund a new fix for my Tannoy addiction.

Welcome to AoS Neil,

I see you like Quad gear and B&W DM2a speakers. So do I - I use them myself!

Also, I can endorse LDR's suggestion of Gershwin as a sort of 'bridge' between classical and jazz; so too, some of the work by the late Dave Brubeck. And also the "Play Bach" pieces by the Jacques Loussier Trio; though classical "snobs" often turn their nose up at this sort of thing. :(

Anyway I suggest you try them out and let us know what you find.
