As Martin says, it doesn't matter what gear you use, You'd be surprised how modest some member's systems are.

Nobody should feel obliged to upgrade all the time. Just play your music and enjoy.

The only shonky systems in this world are the ones which put style before substance and musical enjoyment. If it gives you joy it is by no means shonky.
