Went up to see those nice chaps at A1 Sound in Sheffield to collect some Van Damme Blue 6 mm speaker cable, more on those later, but as the title says, I also ended up buying some new additions to the Van Damme ic range, the Silver Quest Hi Cap.

Now, first priority was to plumb in the speaker cable as I had already taken the TQ Blacks out and sold to Mohit, so that done, and with a good few hours listening to some well known tracks, ascertaining that whilst not quite as good as the TQ cables, for a quarter of the price, they ain't half bad, in fact, they are rather good! I'll update this when they have a few more hours on them.

So, on to the ic's, they are fairly thick, compared to the Ultra White/Black from the same company, and have Audioquest plugs, seemingly as standard. ( I say that as I had my Ultra Whites terminated with them at an additional cost)

I only managed to get in about an hour of listening to tracks that I'm really familiar with, but so far so good, bass seeming a bit tighter than with the Ultras, and a top end that excites my ears!

As I said, I didn't get that long to play, so I will continue listening whenever I can over the weekend and keep you informed of my findings, but it seems very positive so far.

They are a bit dearer than the Ultras, coming in at £45 for a half metre, anyway, more when I can.

Most interesting, Craig. Some pics would be good (lol :eyebrows:) or a link to the cables in question, where one can obtain more info :)

Yeh v funny Marco!

I'll try and do a links thing in a bit....I'm on air at the moment and shouldn't be doing this at all! :)

In the meantime, hit the A1 Sound website, they're on there, in the Van Damme section strangely, right at the bottom.

Back home and have put another hour on them......sounding to my ears slightly more holographic, and I can more easily detect the hi hat ( or whatever it is) on Dire Straits Your Latest Trick.

Currently listening to Fire Red Moon by Peter Chacquico, and it just seems so real, and onto Jeff Buckleys version of Lilac Wine, the brushes across the cymbal sound really good.

I won't say it's a night and day difference to the Ultras, but there is only a £10 difference between what I paid for my modded Ultras, (£35) albeit they are 1 metre, and the Silver Quest Hi Cap are half metre, as it is that £10 is looking to be very well spent.

I can assure you it's easier for you to hit A1 Sounds website and click on Van Damme and scroll to the bottom of the page rather than me pathetically try to post a picture! :eyebrows:

It looks like they are based on these:

Ultra White/Black: Pro Grade Classic XKE instrument cable (http://www.van-damme.com/19.html)
Silver Quest Hi/Flat Cap: Silver Series Session Grade instrument cable (http://www.van-damme.com/18.html)

After a lot of swapping in and out of the 2 Van Damme ic's, my findings are definitely that the Silver Quest HiCap is, to my ears the better of the 2.

I'm finding that the top end is certainly more 'there' for want of a better description, whilst at the same time, lower frequencies are seemingly more natural.

I pronounce the Silver Quest HiCap the winners! :)
