Sudden Death.....

I've had to get real as I have a funeral to go to tomorrow... a friends son of only 45 years died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage... One should NEVER have to put to rest ones sons/daughters !!

It puts everything into perspective really... friends and family is all that matters in the long run.... :(:(:(

No Hi Fi or guitar playing comes close to your best friends or family and their families...

We just had a BBQ for friends and neighbours, about 24 peeps in total, and those special moments of closeness and enjoyment are what REALLY matters in life... :(:(:(

Funerals are never the happiest of occasions, but when the deceased is so young it is especially difficult. Try to remember and think about all that was good about your friend's son and celebrate that.

So sorry to hear this as it brings back sad memories for me. My oldest daughter's long term partner Peter (20 years together) collapsed and died on March 4th 2013 aged 39 years, leaving my daughter with two children under five years of age.

Today, I have been thinking about a good friend of mine, who sadly died ten years ago - aged 53.

It will come to all of us sooner or later, but at 53 that was far too soon. In memoriam I have been playing 'Freebird' by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which was also played at his funeral.

I know exactly how you must feel Barry... and even after 10 years it still hurts doesn't it...

A couple of good tracks were played at the funeral but the only one I can remember was "Redemption Song" - Bob Marley.... so now that will be forever remembered with sadness... I think I have it on cd somewhere so I think I might just play it tonight sometime....

The thing I will also remember is how packed the chapel was.. it was standing room only.... what a fantastic turn out... I was in two minds about going as I didn't know the son that well but I did know the dad very well and decided I must go to support him best I could, and I think that's what it's all about really

Well I've found and played "Redemption Song"..... really superb, though very sad... however I've also found out that my system really likes reggae....

As I know my neighbour is out I wicked it up a bit too.... nice... ;)

I hear yer Bev, I lost one of my best friends to a massive stoke earlier this year. Very sudden it was too..

I have been in contact with my friend, who lost their son, and have had a deep and meaningful discussion with them... I will be visiting him very soon but I have said that I don't handle these things very well...... As a best friend he understands me and I trust our meeting will go as well as possible !!

Can't wait to see him to comfort him as best I can, although I am not at all good at these things.... luckily he knows excactly what I am like though....

He has already said that he appreciated me turning up to the funeral (with a couple of other friends) and he said it made his day..... which I think it's all about...

Wish me well for our meeting....

Although a pragmatic sort who understands it comes to us all eventually, the loss of my mum in 2011 completely knocked me for six. It's fast approaching the third anniversary of her death (July 31st) and the cracks are beginning to show.

Lost my son when he was just 21...its never easy to help but the best thing you can do is just to be there for his family and have patience...time will heel the wounds eventually...good luck

Thanks Steven. Yes it was very hard especially due to the circumstances. It all but destroyed us. My wife has pretty much got over it now but it happened in 1999 so u can see how long it can take
