I just recently discovered that I have some CDs missing. I know I own them, I already have some tracks ripped into iTunes but I cannot locate the discs anywhere! I've done the garage, the loft, the house; I'm running out of places to look!

I'm baffled

Has anyone else mysteriously lost CDs like this?

Yup I think a few of mine flew over the back fence frizbee style when I played them to death
Unfortunately the wife knows nothing about their disappearance

I once accused my sons of taking them and using them for beer mats.

Yes mine do disappear on an irregular basis despite the fact that I live alone and they are all stored in a bookcase about 4 feet from the cd player. Where they go I have no idea but I have had to replace some favourites that have vanished.

Almost as bad is when you go to put a cd on and you open the case to find it is empty. Or has a completely different CD in it. That usually happens not when just browsing for something to play but when it is really, really something you specifically wanted to listen to.

Two LPs I KNOW I had, a Focus compilation (yellow cover on Polydor) & Never Say Die by Sabbath didn't come to light when I organsied my collection into alphabetical.chronological order a couple of years back.... maybe they're with all the odd socks in some kind of 4th dimension.

...along with all the ballpoint pens and the cigarette lighters...must be getting pretty crowded in there...

I've established that I added them to iTunes before I moved house. I don't know if that reassures me or concerns me. Either they are in the garage somewhere, which is piled high with stuff that I haven't thoroughly gone through or they were lost in the move.

Edit: I moved house 7 years ago btw. Oh and they are cd singles with card sleeves.

I often 'loose' CDs and LPs. But they always turn up: either lurking at the bottom of the 'recently played' pile (I'm very bad at re-filing) or they have been mis-filed, either by name or genre.

I have a slightly different problem, or maybe I live in that 4th dimension? . I keep finding duplicate copies of CDs that I have no knowledge of buying second copies  . If anyone else has this problem maybe we could consider listing our duplicates so that the rightful owner could reclaim them? Given the powers at work there probably is no guarantee that I would not still continue to find/buy CDs that I already own :) .

Oh Yes Dave. I have 3 copies of a Dave Grusin LP. They were all £1 and bought at different times from the same collectors vinyl shop:eek::doh::lol::D

I have just accidentally bought 2 copies of a CD. Used my phone to browse ebay and pressed the wrong button. I'm not good with phones!
I'll probably forget I did this and wonder why I have 2.

Hi Dave - great to hear from you after such a long time!

I too have a problem with duplicate CDs. Not that I have purloined them from their rightful owner, rather I have seen them going cheap in a charity shop for £1 and bought them without realising I already had a copy. I have done this on at least four occasions now (and in one instance, I did it twice with a particular title!). Still never mind - if I can't find anyone who wants the CD, I take it back to the charity shop for re-cycling.

I have also done the 'reverse': seen a CD in a charity shop which thought I already possessed, so passed on it, only to find when I got home that I didn't. Of course, by the time I return to the shop someone else has bought it!

I've only bought a duplicate cd on one occasion. Started to think I was losing my mind when I realised what I'd done!

My disc 2 of Soulwax's "Most Of The Remixes" CD has been missing for a couple of years, and it's all the more infuriating because there's only one room it can possibly be in ! I'm missing the Kylie meets Kyuss mix of "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" :steam:

Not quite, I know where all the lighters go... To my mates house, a notorious lighter thief. Indeed I take it upon myself to liberate a few every time I visit. As for the CDs though, goodness knows.
