I downloaded a track of a CD - Bridge: Summer, played by the RLPO conducted by Groves. Dates from the 1970s.

To me there was audible low level background, so I tried to remove it using audacity - and I thought I'd succeeded. I also plotted the spectrum of the noise profile I used, and discovered a peak around 15.2-15.4 kHz - admittedly at a fairly low level. Probably most of us would not hear that, and it also seems that some people are not aware of the LF noise which prompted this in the first place.

After I applied the noise removal process the high frequency peak had gone. I then tried sampling the original track at various points and plotting the spectrum again, and on each occasion there was evidence of the ~15kHz peak. Apparently this could have been caused by a TV monitor used during the recording.

Do you ever analyse recordings you have, or try to improve them? If so, did it work for you, and did you discover anything interesting about the original recording as a result?
