These have come up locally, and they look rather splendid.

€900 - Just over £700. A lot of cash, but they look superb.

I only know the 66 and 661. Both are lovely old timers and IMO should be used a little away from a long wall and again IMO NOT in corners...

Celestion by the time of the Legends were really on a roll and I'm sure they'd be great as well, although I don't know them at all.

How much space is required for these to breathe properly?
They won't be in a corner of the room, but on a long wall. Nearest corner is 2 to 3m away, but I am about 8 to 10 ft away from the speakers, which are about 8ft apart.

The main concern is that my room is too much of a compromise.

With the amps you have (?????) I doubt bass issues will EVER be a huge issue in all honesty. I'm going to state it here (and happy to do this 'over there' also), but certain groups of music lovers seem terrified of fulsome DEEP bass and choose AVI actives and/or squitty little Rega and Royd boxes instead :rofl: I happen to LIKE bass I can feel in my stomach and, ABR or not, the 66 and descendants never boomed as I recall if the amp was up to it.

Might be better firing them down the length of the room. At the price you are not likely to lose on resale but that does mean the hassle of selling them. If you can afford to have the cash tied up for a bit there is not much to lose hy giving them a try.

BIG speakers down the length of a room can be problematic in my experience, as bass-nodes can be heard as you move back and forth. Fine for tweaking bass-shy little 'uns, but possibly a big issue with meatier types.

Will depend on the room. But a big multi way needs some distance for the drivers to integrate. Although in Cagey's situation I would imagine ten feet would be adequate. As with everything we could speculate forever the only real way is practical experementation.

With speakers more than anything it is really a good idea to have an idea about where you want to go with the sound and make decisions based on that I think.

Guess which part of the Legend 66's i cannot be doing with? it's the same part i could not be doing with in the original '66' & '44' for that matter..
