Is it normal for sent items not to be shown on the messages list ? I sent one this morning and I don't know whether the person received it. Also, immediately after I'd pressed the send button it was indicated I wasn't logged in but prior to that I was definitely logged in.

Geoff.

Hi Geoffrey,
First of all, when you log in next time, remember to tick the little box by the log-in details that's marked 'Remember Me'. If you don't do this, then your session will log you out after 15 minutes.

Next, the PM system is totally private so it won't show on any register of posts or the activity stream. You'll have a record of it in your 'Outbox' though.

I think Darren sent me a PM about the croft yesterday, which is yet to arrive.

Hi Chris! It's been my understanding from using other vbulletin-based forums over the years, that a number of straightforward avenues exist for forum admins to access members PMs (some links here (https://www.google.co.uk/search?site=&source=hp&q=vbulletin+can+admins+read+pms&oq=vbulletin+can+ad&gs_l=hp.3.0.0j0i22i30l3.614.4228.0.4937.13.12.0.1. 1.0.171.1194.5j6.11.0....0...1c.1.47.hp..2.11.1031 .0.jWFENOu8JuQ)). Perhaps things have changed, but my assumption has always been that PMs over a forum are never totally private.

I can't comment - to the best of my knowledge, what I've said is correct.
For the purposes of the OP, it is correct that there is no public record of PMs being sent or received.

Sorry to be a pain Chris but I can't see my 'Outbox' I've got 'Sent items' which shows nothing when clicked.

I think that the system *as set up here* does not save your sent PMs. It has never saved mine, anyway.

Click on setting below the banner at the top, then go to My Account > General settings, see if anything in un-ticked in your Messaging & Notification section..

If you don't select 'Save a copy of sent messages in my sent items folder by default' you wont be able to see what you sent unless you get a quoted reply.

Just go into settings as outlined in the above post..

Ah well there you go, I've been doing it wrong all these years. Cheers Andre.

Yes sorry, I should have called it 'Sent Items'.
If there's nothing there then you probably haven't sent it.

EDIT: Looks like Andre's got it cracked.

I still don't think the PM's are working properly. Darren has sent me another, and it's not yet arrived?
That's the second time this has happened in the last week.

Sorry,Kevin - who is Darren?
I thought you were referring to Geoffrey, the OP.
Geoff - is your PM facility working 100% now?

If Darren pipes up, we can see about helping him sort out his problem.

Thanks. Beat me to it.
I have PM'd him and he has not seen anything, and vice versa.

OK, thanks Vicar - it's that Darren then.
He needs to bounce up here if his PMs aren't working and we'll see if we can find a way to check his settings.

I'll PM him to let him know.

Mine don't work either, but my settings look fine?

I've had issues with PM that coincide exactly with the forum update a while ago.
There seems to be an invisible ceiling that manifests itself when I've got somewhere around the 50 message mark.
When this ceiling is reached then messages don't get through.
I believe the standard message inbox should be 100 messages - doesn't work at anything like that for me.

The Barbarian

If your box is full the PM sender will be notified of this. However peeps have a bad habit of letting inbox & Sent messages build up..

If you go to Notifications > My Messages > Edit Folders you will see how many Inbox & Sent messages you have sat there. I am not sure about this but if you find yourself chokablok, then by deleting some 'Sent messages' this will allow you additional 'Inbox space'!! i have not tried this the reason i am not sure.
