My name's Sean from Cardiff. I currently use a B&O Beogram 3000 and a Beomaster 2000 amp/receiver with Beovox BS4 speakers. They cause me no end of problems, but I like the sound and they have a certain retro quality I guess. I know it's not top-end gear, and they will need to be replaced sooner rather than later, so I'm here to learn! I've been looking through the forum pages and this looks like a friendly place to do some research.

Like a lot of people I started buying LP's, then moved onto CD's and have now returned to vinyl in earnest. Speaking of which, I see you're from NZ. My sister lives just outside Rotorua and I've spent many a happy hour in Slow Boat records in Wellington. I hope it's still going strong.

I'm a bit of a jack of all trades. I buy a lot of sixties and Seventies R'n'b, Jazz (having a big Roland Kirk phase at the moment), psyche, reggae, world music, country, soundtracks, all kinds of stuff really .....Elvis Costello once said music's more like water than a rhinoceros, it doesn't charge headlong towards a given point, but goes out in all directions. I'm with him on that one.

The last time I looked, it was still there, thats the one in Cuba St ? My opinion on LP's and CD's, yeah LP's can sound very nice, but present a storage issue when you get to 500 or more of them. For convenience factor about 5 years ago I invested in some Yamaha CDRHD1500's which can fit with a 500gb IDE hard drive about 700 hrs of music. From LP CD and minidisc sources I put most of this on to the Yamaha's and do backups as well. We are spoiled for choices these days with some very nice A/V Linux operating systems dedicated to audio,with flac and ogg storage. I was in Rotorua late last year, which is a bit up the road from Masterton.

I used to run a B&O CD7000 - It was an amazing cdp. The build quality was just superb... not like some of the crap today I can tell ya.

Welcome to AoS Sean.

B&O products are often dismissed as 'Habitat Hi-Fi', but that is unfair. I have a high regard for their cartridges and electronics, especially the 3000 series. I have a B&O cartridge and the 1700 tuner.
